Anyone else sick of hearing from Canadian collectors that things are less expensive here so we should just take it and shut up?
Any person collecting something from a country other than their own needs to understand that you WILL pay a premium since you are not the primary market. This would go for American collectors buying OSTs or Binaltechs. They understand there is a premium. GI Joe is a line aimed at Americans. Collectors outside the USA WILL pay more. Get over it. If the USA gets a huge shift in price, so will Canada, and you guys have all given up your right to bitch with comments like "you should be happy to be paying less than $7 a figure" because all the solidarity you have shown will make me go boo-hoo to you when they are raping you to the tune of $13 per figure. Plus they are not a secondary market. Hasbro makes figures specificly for them - why do you think they have different cards? It's not like your importing Takara Transformers using a 3rd party and paying a premium. These are things that are in retail stores in Canada. You think the United States is the center of the universe. I bet you think the world is flat too, huh? |

I'd totally vote for any candidate who put that on their platform.

I took some of your advice and remote my letter to Wal*Mart as well... I figures it couldn't hurt and it would address the retail aspect of the price skyrocket, opposed to the manufactures side of the increase:
To whom it may concern at Wal*Mart, My name is Matthew Blackert and I have been a big fan of G.I. Joe while growing up. Many childhood memories were made by watching the 1980’s GI JOE cartoon series, collecting GI JOE comics, and collecting every single GI JOE action figure I could get my parents to buy me for Christmas, Birthdays, and special occasions. With that being said, when I found out about the 25th Anniversary line I was immediately interested. The updated figures with similar card art to the 80’s brought back so many memories. I have collected nearly every figure from Wal*Mart, which includes waves 1- 7, which is right around fifty action figures. The best part about the GI JOE line was how affordable the figures were, and this is coming from a full time college student who also works part time to pay his way. I would even stop in my local Wal*Mart four to even five times a week checking for the new shipment of GI JOE’S to arrive, opposed to traveling around to other retail stores or purchasing the figures on a competitors website. However, my concern I would like you to address is the recent price skyrocketing of the GI JOE 25th Anniversary single figures. I have purchased every figure thus far for $4.88 at my local Wal-mart retail stores. Within the past two months the price jumped up from $4.88 to $5.44. And finally this week the price inflated to $6.84. Is there not an end to how much one will charge for a single 3 ¾’ inch figure? Your competitor Target retail stores sell the figures for $5.99 each and even provide a coupon for five dollars off your purchase of twenty-five dollars on any toy items, and the coupon can be honored for the rest of the year and printed off the internet at anytime. Also, Hasbro the maker of GI JOE figures, is selling figures on there online store for $5.99, yet again beating the price of Wal-Mart. I don’t understand how in a two month time frame a single figure can jump nearly two dollars in price? I understand the popularity of the line, but at the same time it is the fans of GI Joe that have been passionately collecting the series which in turn has made the series popular. As soon as my local stores stock the 25th anniversary GI Joe, they seem to sell right off the shelves, unlike many other brands of action figures that hang on store pegs for weeks and months. I can understand a subtle price increase over an extended period of time, but this recent skyrocket makes me feel like I am being taken advantage of as a loyal patron of GI Joe and Wal*Mart. I know I am only one voice and my opinion means nothing to a large company such as yourself, but I couldn’t let the opportunity to relay my feelings slip past me. I adore the ease of going into my local Wal*Mart store and gathering everything I need from food to holiday decorations on a daily/weekly basis, but I will wonder what Wal*Mart is thinking the next time I have to look at a price tag on a 25th anniversary GI JOE figure and decide whether I should purchase it from Wal*Mart or pass on it. Thanks for hearing out a concerned GI Joe fanatic. Sincerely, Matt Blackert |

I recently typed out this letter and sent it to Hasbro. It is in reguards to the price increase on the GI JOE 25th anniversary figures. I know some other people were thinking of writing to Hasbro, so I thought I would share what I wrote. I know wal-mart is actually the retailer who raised prices, but I thought I would go to the direct source of the manufacture to find out about pricing. I was trying to be as professional as possible with being rude, but at the same time adressing the concern of how high can they keep bumping the price up just because the lines popularity, anyways here goes:
To whom it may concern at Hasbro, My name is Matthew Blackert and I have been a big fan of G.I. Joe while growing up. With that being said, when I found out about the 25th Anniversary line I was immediately interested. The updated figures with similar card art to the 80’s brought back so many memories. I have collected nearly every figure from wave 1- wave 7(which I was hoping to get upon release). I like the directions Hasbro is going with the line, and how more figures and vehicles are going to be released in the near future. And the best part about the line was how affordable the figures were, and this is coming from a full time college student who also works part time to pay his way. However, my concern I would like you to address is the recent price skyrocketing of the 25th Anniversary single figures. I will not take my snake eyes poster off my wall, nor will I cash in my childhood GI Joes collection because I am upset. I won’t even part with my 25th Anniversary collection, but I will wonder what Hasbro is thinking the next time I have to look at a price tag on a 25th anniversary figure and decide whether I should purchase it or not. Thanks for hearing out a concerned GI Joe fanatic. Sincerely, Matt Blackert Man...Great. Be sure to post their response. Thanks...This works for all of us. |

I'll answer with another statement, store exclusives blow! But no, I dislike the idea of a store exclusive in the fact that it generates unnecessary hassle for the collector. Especially in a series of toys with such high demand. Look at the nonsense bickering it causes here alone.
