I'm curious to know what people really think about this figure. I keep hearing that it wasn't well received, but I wonder if that was the general consensus or if it was just the usual dozen people who hate everything that isn't an ARAH update.
Who'd want to see more M.A.S.K. characters (with or without vehicles) incorporated into the Joe-verse down the line? |

I personally love him. Love the Condor reference with the Annihilator backpack and love the fact that we received a character from another mythos that we may have never seen otherwise.

good toy. I was stoked to hear he was coming out and I was really stoked to get it when it was released. The chopper pack is a cool throwback to the Annihilator and the original head sculpt is cool and has personality.

The Tracker I have open is cool. I have another on card. I am scouring Big Lots to find any more. I might want make some M.A.SK. customs since this the only M.A.S .K. figure ever to be made by Hasbro.

I could have bought him at walmart when he first came out. He looked decent. A couple things I would have changed... Like the bondage harness around his neck.
The only reason I didn't get him at the time was I doubted there would be any other "Muh-Muh-Muh-MASK!" figures coming out. My OCD is a powerful foe. If they had come out with at least 2 or 3 more I probably would have gotten them all. Miles Mayhem would've been nice. And I'd eat my own face for a new Brad Turner with Condor bike. |

it was the first 25th figure I bought.
I thought it was an excellent idea and wonderfully executed.

My problem isn't that he's not a great figure... he's a really great sculpt. He just has no place being in the 25th/Modern Era line of GI Joes.
I've exhausted trying to get Tankers to understand this concept, as it's not hard to understand, so I'm not going to go into it with back-n-forth style arguing. But it did—as much as people like to argue with simple logic—take up a "new sculpt" spot in the line for a much-more-wanted character, and it made no sense for another toyline's character to make a cameo in in the first place, when it was touted as an anniversary, or at the very least, modern update line. Even worse, is that it was a one-shot. What's the point of doing one without at least the villain? So even if I was a fan of M.A.S.K., which I'm not and wasn't as a child, why would I want the good guy without the bad guy? I don't want them to make the villain counterpart (because I never wanted Matt Trakker in the first place), but it doesn't make sense to me why they put an outside toyline character into Joe, but then didn't even do the bag guy. The head is simply one of the best sculpts in the entire line, sadly. Sad, because I am a GI Joe fan and I still don't have an official "classic" Low-Light, or Footloose, or whoever from the list of Joes still missing from the updated list... Sad even to the level that Gung Ho doesn't look like Gung Ho, but for some reason Matt Trakker got an amazing head sculpt. Chalk it up as nerd rage or whatever, but if you take GI Joe fandom out of the equation, I'd still question it if, say, Capt. Picard showed up in the Star Wars toyline, or Ren and Stimpy showed up in a Care Bears line. The point nobody seems to understand, is it simply doesn't make any sense. ^ I see your point MR. I would agree but whose to say hasbro would have done as good a job on another 25th joe of cobra? Trakker is still a solid figure and I'm happy to have him in my lineup. They also did an og sculpt for Roddy Piper but I don't hear anyone complaining about that.

For me, it made slightly more sense in Roddy's case, seeing as how they'd shoe-horned Sarge into the line already back in the 80s... But even in Roddy's case, it's a "universe" that had been previously ushered into GI Joe lore. I guess the thought behind that was "We already have a foot in the door, so let's give Sarge a combatant." As much as I loved Robocop as a kid, or Ghostbusters, or TMNT, or you name it, I wouldn't want a single figure in a 25th Anniversary GI Joe line, and would have been just as frustrated if any of them showed up in it. Just because one of the Joe team sculpters was a huge M.A.S.K. fan makes absolutely no sense in my mind why he was thrown in, but I'd love to hire that guy, because he can apparently sell through anything. |
