I could not understand why Hasbro went with the Devils Due design(from the battle files book) for Serpentor instead of the classic v1 design.

There was another similar to the original, it was a boxed DVD set... I think it came with Dusty and a BAT... maybe it was Quickkick... I don't remember.

I did like the DDP version better, and I wish I could find one. I thought the "Armor" was better than the "Weird Snake Outfit".

Well I think they probably thought the DDP design fit the more 'modern' look they were trying to emulate.

At least we complained enough that we got a semi-cartoon/comic Serpentor in the DVD pack.

And more complaints got us the RoC.....Just kidding.

I actually like both versions of the 25th/ME Serpentor. I think Hasbro's biggest mistake was not bulking up his Air Chariot. He doesn't fit very well onto that vehicle.

same w/ zartan. why they didn't release the classic version first is beyond me. the 25th line was a cruel mistress.

Gotta say I liked the DDP Zartan, he's the only Zartan I have from 25th/ME.
He's not 100% accurate, but he works for me.

Agreed. But using parts from that one, the one from the DVD pack and the one from the Air Chariot vehicle pack I was able to Frankenstein one that was most satisfactory!

The Zartan and Serpentor figures were designed as upgrades to the classic designs. When the brand manager found out he quickly stopped all further "updates" and told the design team to stick as close to the classic looks as possible. Later on to makeup for the change he had the figures re-done in a more classic look.

All this info was dished out in early Q&A's and at the convention. The design team just wanted to update the looks and at the time they were big fans of what was happening with the comic at DDP. So yes the looks are similar to the comic at the time and do not fit in with a 25th anniversary theme but I like the Zartan more then the 2nd or 3rd release.

Like many I just kit-bashed a better version with parts from the DVD pack figure and wave 2 figure. It passes muster but I would love to see them take another crack at it, maybe as an exclusive of some kind. Really just need new hands and some new paint.
