How do you know if you're addicted to G.I. Joe?
I signed up for hisstank.com I believe sometime last late summer. I'd bought a ROC Doctor and Cobra Commander while trying to track down a DCUC Robotman. After multaple visits to the local Walmart trying to get the DCUC exclusive, I broke down and picked those two figures as I was tired of going in and not buying anything. After the purchase, I really was amazed by the figures and signed up for this website and started looking online at ROC figure pics. I came across last years (I believe) POC pics and was blown away. I started getting the ROC figures a couple a week here and there, then a few more figs a week, and a few more. Now I've ended up with almost every ROC figure (somehow accidentally ended up with 5 City Strike Snake Eyes) and vehicle and the few POC at retail or avalible on ebay. I now check ebay almost daily, and scour stores for ROC I don't have. Worse, I've branched into 25th figures and buying figures just for parts! Yes, my wife buys me paints and tools for making mods and customs (thus enabling me further). The other night she remarked "Is that a pill bottle full of heads?" To which I replied "Yes!" My office has become littered with boxes of Joe stuff all over and I've slowly been rotating "toy stock" and displaying it. I've got to go pick up some shelving supplies this weekend to build new shelves (though building shelves being a thing I've been putting off for at least 3 years) so I can display everything/ have my books all in one place (I've got a large DC figure collection in addition to several hundreds of comics). So I had told myself back in January, no more Joes until POC is released proper. However, between B/S/T threads here, ebay, and the occasional "Store Score", I've not gone a week without buying any Joes (on top of that branched into the Marvel U figures because of their scale) since I started buying them last year. Is this an addiction? Or am I just Joe-Crazy? Maybe this is perfectly normal? Or does this make me a casual collector? By the way, my wife doesn't understand my new Joe-Obsession, though she enables it. She thought it weird not only that I joined a Joe site, but that there was one! LOL! I explained to her parrents it's "My toy train fetish" and they understand (I believe my wife doesn't want to understand). So, in addition, what kind of collector are you? Did you collect in childhood and stop, only to pick it up in later adulthood (as I did)? Never stop? Only collect certain figures/ lines/ ect? What got you into them? And are you a Joe addict?

thats exactly how it happened for me. Ive always been a marvel comic and figure collector, I had a few joes as a kid growing up but was always big into marvel, as marvel prices got higher I phased out a bit, then one day I saw the RoC figs out on pegs fresh before the movie release, picked up a few that looked cool.. and it sparked me wanting more. I also now dont go a week without searching for new figs or figs I dont have, and joes have taken priority over marvel now. I first check Joes, then check marvel, then check clearance.

Wow, of all things, those terrible ROC figures, drew you to Joes. Interesting.

I loved joes as a kid, but fell out of them when i was about 13 due to family issues and all of joes being abandoned by my mom during a move. I would buy singular toys here and there all through life (mostly McFarlane Statuefigures) but never seriously collected any toys. Then my mom died in 2003 suddenly, and that night i couldn't sleep so i wandered my local walmart (went in for a pack of cigarettes). I saw the Snake eyes from the JvC line, and it was like being transported back to my childhood. so i bought it. Then i bought alot more figures (probably grief induced). While researching the new figures online, i found an online community. It was a pretty good site, had some jerks there but also some real solid folks. But it got me into customizing, and rekindled my interest in joes.

I would say your addicted if your on this site alot and everytime you go to a store, you have to check the toy section for Joe's. Your also an addict if your doing online ordering all the time, lol.
I started collecting Joe's between 25th Waves 8 & 9. I don't collect other toys. But, one day when I was at a Walmart, for some reason, I decided to look around in the toy section. I found GI JOE 25th. I had no idea they were remaking them. That day I bought every figure on the pegs, except doubles. My plan was to collect them MOC. Now I have a huge loose collection as well as MOC. I even troop build.

I was introduced to JOE in 1982, but wasn't too impressed until they came out with "Swivel arm Battle Grip" in 82-83. I was 6 years old in 1982, and I loved Star Wars... But then Star Wars ended; and Joe was cheaper than Transformers. My family didn't have alot of money in the 1980s, so my brother and I decided we would collect GI JOE together.
My father was a Medic in Army field hospital during Viet Nam. He volunteered for combat a few times, and recieved the Bronze Star. He wasn't thrilled with my love for GI JOE at first, but he eventualy was ok with it.. I started seriously collecting GI JOE in 1986. I was 10 years old, and I got the Terror Drome & Havoc for my birthday. Then I got the Outpost defender, LAW, Cobra Survailence port, Stun, Thunder Machine, and Conquest X-30 later that year. My brother got the Night Raven for Christmas and we were addicted. We never really stopped either. I collected through Junior high, and High school. I got teased alot for it too. I branched off into Marvel Toybiz, and Star Trek Playmates lines in the 1990s. But I still bought used GI JOE stuff at second hand stores, garrage sales, and flea markets. Now I'm 33 years old, and I have a huge JOE collection. Though some of it is my little brother's... We have always managed to share our toys/collections.

I think I was pretty much born addicted to action figures.
I've collected Joes off and on since 1982. Before that if you count the Super Joe debacle of the late 1970s. But with the exception of a few isolated years here and there, I think I've always collected one line of toys or another. Star Wars (vintage and current), Toy Biz Lord of the Rings, various Mego lines, Playmates Star Trek (the 90s lines, not that crap line from last year), superhero toys of all kinds (Super Powers, Secret Wars, the current Marvel Universe) have been among my favorites over the years. |

When you are willing to go against your morals and perform shameful acts for GI Joes. Also, when you go through physical and/or mental withdrawal when you cant score some GI Joe.

You sit at work all day and instead of doing the job that pays your bills you hit the B/S/T lists in order to find a set of forearms that you need for some obscure custom.

The first Gi Joe item I ever got was the Battle Copter with Major Altitude.
I loved it cuz the good Major looks like my dad. Next up was the Tiger Shark. But it needed a driver so my dad goes out and comes back with the only sailor available at the time. Topside. for the longest time, I loved the Joes, but never got many other figures. Years later, I join the Navy. Where I aquire my nickname. Shipwreck. (dont ask) So I research Shipwreck more. I buy my first 25th Joe. Shipwreck I love the figure so much, I start to pick up some more... next thing I know, I've got shelves worth of Joes. and the boxed set of dvds....
