I have noticed it a lot lately .. and it's not just in the ROC line. The Marvel figures? ROC? Some of the Transformers? They all suck! Tape? Tape? Why the heck is there tape on these packages? I am sure that there is a cost reason but good lord man ... it makes it easier to cover up tampering with the package and it can't be that much more cost effective because I don't see it on the Star Wars lines or most of the DC figures. (The things one notices when Xmas shopping for nieces and nephews ... ok ok .... as well as the little kid in me as well).
Ok, end of rant. |

Actually, I noticed that too as I was opening up some Joe & BBI vehicles lately. Actually, I don't care much for packaging, as for me it is just an obstacle to overcome. But when you have loads of tape all over the place, it just makes you want to bring a chainsaw to take care business. And I have wrecked a toy before in my haste to open it up (a 1:18 Maisto Pajero, ended up wrecking the side mirrors).
It's as if the guy packing this stuff used to design traps for Indiana Jones in his previous occupation. /childlike rant, and now I'm back to normal.

sucks when the tape rips off pieces of the 'background' on vehicle packs and such.

I open all my packages at my computer desk.
On said desk is my trusty xacto-blade, cutting thru packages/tape/clear rubber bands and idle fingers for me since 1987. :-)

Who cares about tape? Just cut it carefully with an X-Acto knife.
The thing that I can't stand are the 50 million rubber bands & wire twist ties. Even with an X-Acto knife & wire cutters they're a pain in the ass. And sometimes you can't get to the twist ties. |

I swear, the puzzle box from Hellraiser is a more relaxing experience than some packaging i have dealt with.
I actually had a box that had so much tape taht one flap had tape UNDER the flap. I personally hated the TFTM 2007 voyager boxes the most of any recent packaging- nice window display, but held together with 200 flaps and tape. and it seemed you couldn't just open the end and slide the toy out. that would be too easy. But really, fellas, aren't you glad that most Joes and SW and TFs are on cards with a little tape instead of those Clamshells from Hell that McFarlane toys are packaged in? Man, those are annoying, even with an X-Acto knife. I recycle those clear rubber bands, so i am kinda okay with those. (they are great for the jets and things I mount to my wall.)

Honestly, I'd be happy if they just sold them in ziploc baggies. |

Is it just me or does it seem on some toy packages they spend more money designing the package than the toy inside?
