I've noticed a lot of back and forth on these boards about how hasbro's target market is kids and not collectors.
I wonder, why does every store then have "exclusive" packs out the ying yang. I don't think kids really care about "exclusives". This would apply to Star Wars, Transformers and the like. Fact is, most "exclusive" packs are targeted to collectors and only contain repaints anyways. Apparently, Hasbro does put a lot of time into what collectors will buy. Trouble is, they think more about packaging than product. Double trouble is, collectors keep buying the packaging further propagating this trend. sad Make good product and the kids as well as the collectors will buy. |

If its kids vs. collectors, I think I could take out a few 8-year-old kids.
-So if you see some guy putting a kid in a choke hold for a CS Snake Eyes, that's me. |

That back and forth started eons ago when we started talking about ROC.
It was touted ROC was geared to the younger generation, and was changed/updated so those "kiddies" would not be confused, reasons why the 25th/ME line was cancelled since the kiddies would be confused and did not want to collect us old timer's village people joes. I think both are targeted since both buy thier products, is one favored more then another? I doubt it, but there is alot of reasosn for and agaisnt that argument so learn and gain knowledge and form your own conclusion |

With the exception of possibly MOTUC and anything made by McFarlane, Mezco, and the like, I believe all toys found at major retailers are marketed more towards kids than collectors, even exclusives.

It actually started between 1995 and 1998 with Star Wars and has bled over to everything else...Hasbro is by far the worst offender...but Mattel is guilty of repacking the same damn item over and over again (JLU, Cars, etc)

I would note that a lot of Star Wars exclusives are just as well-suited to kids as collectors (See: AT-ST, X-Wing Fighters, TIE Fighters, TIE Interceptors, Republic Gunships, Etc...), while a good chunk of their "mass retail" product (at least in the Legacy Collection) seems tailored more towards collectors alone (Random Cantina background aliens, Expanded Universe characters, etc...)

How does it being an "exclusive" mean it's not targeted/meant for the kid over the collector?
"Exclusive" just means it's made for that specific store only. Nothing about the item says it's made for a collector. Now the Hall of Heroes stuff, that was geared towards the collector. The arguement can be made that exclusives are meant more for the kid then the collector because there is an increased use of repaints and/or recycled parts. Stuff like that is normally considered a "turn off" for the collector.
