Well I've always done Buying and Re-Selling allot and been working 24/7 the last 3 months to make $$$$$ to pay off the credit card bill.
Seems like I can no longer really enjoy collecting Gi Joe and the other lines like I used too and now am almost tired of it totally.....I'm starting to think the near endless selling and buying is burning me out so quick it's making me go crazy. It's good when you have the money to burn on stuff but the way things are now these days the selling part is really hard. But literally now these days I can look around my room and just see what I've spent on my entire collection...and of course know that I'll end up selling it in a few months time. I probably need to take a break from collecting...just did way too much in september and just working hard on clearing out stuff that I've got piled up and stowed in the closet to get rid of. Anyone else feel that way sometimes about collecting Gi Joes and whatever else you collect? Sure the end result is great when you've weeded out the undesirable figures and vehicles from your Gi Joe Collection it's just the effort that goes into it drains you. Plus another question to ask is this: At what point does it get to enough is enough for you and at what cost? I'm sure many of you guys who are married probably get hassled by your wives for buying toys all the time....that can be a good example there... Last edited by TyjosAzari; 10-05-2009 at 06:37 AM.. |

At the moment, the GF and I are making slow but steady preparations to move house, and it hurts to have to cut down on my toy collections, but for the most part it kind of helps because can only reasonably have one version of each main character it means I can combine parts etc to get the best of the best. I might actually ebay or trade here for some other stuff that I really want. Don't know yet.

I don't buy undesireable action figures and don't look at my collection as money ill spent and think of selling any of it. When I buy my figures, I make sure to buy only what I want and rationalize the purchase. "Is it necessary for me to own this figure?" If no, regardless of the "cool factor" I pass it up. Better to spend that money on another ifgure down the line.
What I cannont fathom is buying, selling and repurchasing. That's just nuts. If you can't afford something, budget yourself. This way you don't spend all your money and end up having to sell your figures later to pay off bill or put food on the table. Exercising a little self control wouldn't hurt either. It is a tough economy, but it hasn't effected my figure collection by any means. I'm lucky that I make good money at a good job BUT I also know that anything can happen at any time and make sure to only get what I need for my collection. Sure there are the un-needed figures that come in multi packs, but someone here will always need them so I have a place to unload them. I can see how buying something I like only to sell it off sometime later could burn me out. That would suck to be excited about something only to have to let it go like that. Simple solution is to NOT do that. Take measure and make sure you get your finances in order. If you're careful in your spending, this won't happen and there will be no burnout.

I've been getting burned out more and more lately, mix that with stress from what I endure around the house, just hasn't been helping.
I used to up till recently buy lots of figures, I'd get the ones I want out and sell off the ones I didn't want [the undesirables] I used to usually though end up with more of those than the ones I actually wanted. but eh, it's a hobby that now has become quite tiresome to maintain.... I probably could use a good long vacation from collecting for sure. Now these days I just focus on exclusives.... |

Open up some Joes... and JUST PLAY. You (and they) will be much happier. Some Cobras might not be.
No buying, no selling, just PLAY awhile. Try it, and be happy. |

Yeah, a little. I've got a fair bit of stuff I want to unload right now - an extra 25th Alpine, MU figures, some Hot Toys Predator figures, a Sideshow excl. Kit Fisto, TF Predaking etc - but I haven't really made much of an effort. I also got extras of everything (3 3/4 scale anyway) at the Con this year, which I fully intended on selling to help cover some of the costs, but I still haven't really tried to sell them (PM me if you're interested though).
Part of this is because I just moved into a house, and I've been real busy with other things. I haven't even really set up my "Joe Room" yet, either, but I think with the selling, it's just really a pain in the butt. I know I can trade this stuff too, and I'm not really hurting for money, so I guess it's just not a priority right now.

ever since the 25th/modern line i've been collecting to build my childhood dream collection , it doesn't include every figure( although i did end up with way more ss & se then my collection needed) so i choose wisely. it also has a definitive end. i only buy never ever sell, i figure the selling well happen when i'm dying or dead

I just buy what I want, with no regrets. Sometimes you end up with a figure or two you don't want due to multi packs, but I immediately put them separate and up for resale or trade. If you are not buying for your own satisfaction and mainly for resale, you shouldn't be to overstocked either, because if you are good at what you do, you will pick and choose desirable items, that you will have no problem reselling.

I'm binging and purging more and more recently. Just because they don't fit in my current Joe-verse, I lose out on over half the $ I have spent in the first place. This includes custom fodder I think I would use down the line to the Nano Vipers which are going to a friend for a kickin' price.
I WANT to believe the Jungle Viper is going to be a keeper, same with the Night Adder. I kept the Night Adder, let's see about the other, now. |
