Can anyone tell me the step by step process from how a gi joe figure goes from an idea in someone's head to a physical action figure?
I'm hoping someone here works in the toy industry and can answer this. |

You know, I would love to see that on the show "How its Made". Well, it would only show how it is physically made in the factory, but it would be interesting nonetheless.

Same with the torsos. Do the figures come out of the press with the torsos together. Are paint apps done mechanically? Who takes the figure from being a solid one piece mold to a posable figure? |

i suppose a prototype of pieces, set into the molds, then resin cast by pouring. or carve the molds then pour casting. something like that. but good question, i would love to know the actual process. COBRA!
ohhh as for the insets it can be done by heat welding the insert maybe. COBRA! Last edited by Rasstis; 09-17-2009 at 04:54 PM.. Reason: forgot |

I will tell you what I know about McFarlanes process... They research the subject via pictures, they sketch it from multiple angles, then someone designs the parts on a 3d Program, then they use a "3d printer" that generates parts, then they have sculptors add detail to the piece, Then painter paints them, then they make a mold of it, send the mold as well as a copy of the prototype which is painted to China, China uses the molds to create castes and uses the painted version to pick colors which are generally applied mechanically, they make a bunch of them and send a few randomly selected back for Quality Control. That is about as much as I know but I hope someone knows more!

Joes are made from snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails.

I read an article in Star Wars magazine which detailed from start to finish the Star Wars figures. Since those are made by hasbro I imagine joe goes in a similar process.
Anyway, they actually sculpt the figure in wax to the 3 3/4 scale. Then they make a mold and have china make several shots for quality control.

I thought unicorns pooped them out along with rainbows. That's what I tell my kids. All these other theories sound too far fetched to believe.
