I spent a half hour talking with a manager in person at the coleman target in san jose about their policy on g.i.joes. It seems target is taking a stance of sorts with scalpers.
-Target sees collectors and scalpers as one and the same. -ANY PERSON who comes into the store daily to look for a collectible IS IDENTIFIED BY SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS AS A SCALPER AND FLAGGED. THEY KEEP PICTURES OF THESE PEOPLE. -If a person asks for a item that is not on the shelves, the employee MUST REFUSE TO HELP THIS PERSON AS THAT PERSON HAS, BY ASKING FOR SAID ITEM, IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES AS A SCALPER. -Scalpers are, by buying joes or star wars or anything they deem collectible, then reselling them at double the price, STEALING MONEY FROM TARGET. -They will not stock collectible items of any sort, even if the pegs or shelves are empty of product for any amount of time and they have stock in the back, until the order to do so comes in from the corporate office. This can be a matter of weeks. -Any item in the store can be considered collectible. I am more than bothered by this. I left the store feeling like the only sane person left on earth. |

I worked for retail before, most likely most of the Targets will not follow this rule. To much useless work for nothing. If the store can make there money then there going to do so. It's not worth the time and effort not to stock anything or keep track of certain costumers.

That...really? Did he provide any kind of documentation? Did you try calling corporate, going over his head? That's pretty whacked.
BTW, scalpers or resellers are in no way stealing money from Target. They had to buy the damn product at Target in the first place. There is zero logic there.

I will no longer purchase toys from target, they already charge over a dollar more per figure than wal mart anyway, guess target doesn't like peoples business good way to drive away customers with your corporate bs policy

Are you sure he didn't have OCD or something?
Did his eyes twitch when he talked? And how did he treat you considering you're a collector?

I agree with the poster above who suggested that most Targets probably won't bother with this nonsense; it's only going to cost them money. Target has no reason...and no right, really...to care what the hell people do with product after it leaves the store. I just don't get it. Lose business? Check. Alienate customers who spend lots of cash? Check. There isn't enough wtf.

Me thinks a Target manager provided himself with some fun at your expense this morning.
