I think its the best packaged GI Joe figure they have made in a long, long time. The history of the McCullen family legacy on the pages plus the two figures are AWESOME in person.

I just got this from Hasbro toyshop (why on earth do people pay $50 for this thing at places like BBTS when Hasbro has it for $25?)
I think the medieval Destro is adequate, though not really what I want for Joe. But the modern one is SPECTACULAR. First of all, he looks like he walked out of a Guy Ritchie movie to me. Or a Bond film. He looks stylish and deadly, like all he has to do is barely glance at you and you're dead. Though the chrome head doesn't fit him perfectly, I think it makes for an awesome modern Destro figure, and with the regular head I think he's a spectacular foe. I've always been a fan of the "Lex Luthor is a billionaire genius" type of villain, and I like the idea that this guy is just a really powerful CEO type, but when pushed to the wall he puts on a jetpack and takes out a flamethrower. I love the fact that he still has the peghole in his back SO HE CAN ACTUALLY DO THIS. Picturing him in the detention area of one of the Joe HQ toys reminds me of the Joker-in-jail parts of Dark Knight -- the heroes think they've won, but the criminal mastermind is just as deadly from behind bars. And then putting him in a HISS or a DEMON or something, it's just such a great visual disconnect, this guy in a suave suit and tie but with a massive chrome gun sitting at the helm of an outrageous sci-fi looking doomsday machine. Awesome awesome awesome. Law |

i love this set for what it is... an ROC accurate con exclusive.
They could have easily just done some weird repaint thing and slapped it on a card. The prototypes are awesome too. (just sayin).

It is worth it man. I wasn't real big on the "family" Destro but after watching the movie, it really is a nice set.

the Destro set is a ripoff in my opinion. Its more than 3x the price of a single carded 3.75 figure. And the only thing in the whole set that people really want is the Destro in the business suit. I don't need some medieval times looking Destro or some fancy packaging at an inflated price.

Well (for me) a lot of the charm of this set is the packaging made to look like a history book of Destro's family. I have also been wanting a normal business suited figure for a long time. The Ancient Destro is alright, but not as good as the business suit Destro.
If you already don't like the packaging or the figures from pictures then there's a fairly good chance you may just not like the set. This isn't always the case, when I first saw pictures of the set, I liked the Ancient Destro better, but after I got them in hand, that changed. Detail and articulation are what I look for in most figures, both of these have a good amount of detail (The ancient Destro falls a little short in the articulation department) |
