Does anyone know what kind of gun Impact Armor Duke's SMG is based on. I'm referring to the gun with the slanted front. Any ideas?

Not quite sure what it's meant to be...it could be a pure sci-fi weapon...then again some fantastical firearms have been attempted. Modern Firearms - PP-2000 submachine gun an interesting example...I'll look for shizz and giggles.

From what I can gather looking at it after I dug it from my armory bin of guns it's meant to be some garden variety 9mm SMG with a traditional stick mag with an Eotech weapons sight and a folding stock...perhaps one of the multipe weapons they've attempted to tout as a new PDW (personal defense weapon) to make up for the lack of firepower of the standard sidearm of the modern era (the first attempt at this was the .30 Caliber M1 Carbine) Nothing I have from my online resources or my volumes on firearms has anything that could be deemed a match...I guess it would make for a badass CQB weapon for the Joe team however...thinking Pit Commandos armed with those would look boss.

It's a Heckler & Koch MP7 personal defense weapon/submachine gun mocked up with a false forward magazine well.
Here's what the MP7 looks like in real life (the actual magazine well is located in the grip, much like in an Uzi or a Mac-10, also, note that the stock is folded): Here's the gun that comes with reactive armour Duke, stock extended: I don't know why they moved the magazine well forward... maybe it was to avoid any copyright infringement issues with Heckler & Koch, but that doesn't make sense, since the assault rifle he comes with is obviously an FN F2000, and you don't hear Fabrique National complaining about Hasbro using their weapon as the basis for the RoC rifles. Then again, I think HK is more protective of how their products are used and depicted in media. Last edited by zuludelta; 08-27-2009 at 11:37 PM.. |

I'd go with that if it wasn't for the fact it has a blatant stick magazine up front...it's like they chop-shopped the MP-7 and replaced the foregrip with a stick mag...also the buttstock is all wrong (yes, I'm enough of a gun geek to nitpick these things) It's like a FAMAE SAF raped an MP7!!!

They never show Duke using the submachine gun in the film, though (although Baroness uses an MP7A1 in the Paris Pursuit scene), so I think it's just a case of the toy designers cobbling together different elements from multiple sources (with the MP7 as the base design) to make a plausible-looking weapon to go with the toy.

Yeah, I think it's a pretty rad little gun, I actually plan on snagging a few more of the figs for the gear and the body for some customs. I actually sometimes despite my love of firearms love it when they mishmash something together.

Yeah, it does look cool. From a physics standpoint, though, I don't see how it can be very accurate, even by SMG standards. The reason the MP7 has its magazine well located in the grip is to maximize barrel length and improve ballistic stability. A gun like that, assuming the magazine feeds perpendicularly to the lengthwise axis of the weapon (and it should, given its position relative to the rest of the firearm), leaves very little room for the bullet to travel through and be stabilized by the barrel.
But yeah, something tells me I'm overthinking it |
