Released in November 2024 as part of Wave 17 in the Classified Series, Destro's Iron Grenadiers get their second addition to Classified with his ELITE TROOPER, the Iron Grenadier.
Fans will notice right off the bat that this Classified Iron Grenadier (or IG as fans often call them) looks less like his original 1988 design and is more inspired by his Modern Era figure, specifically the figure from the 2012 convention set which features a trench coat skirt. Hasbro tooled up a new head, torso, decorative shoulder harness and skirt for the Iron Grenadier which help make him feel fresh and not like a simple repaint. His new torso features a lot of nice details like the ribbed padding around his ribs and lower back and a nice trenchcoat, with collar , tie and amulet details underneath as well. Much to many fans' disappointment, the Iron Grenadier features mostly re-used accessories. While they are serviceable, a new saber and new leg holsters may have helped elevate this figure even more. He does feature a removable helmet now, which is very cool and a great addition to this figure, and a brand new shoulder harness strap and trench coat skirt which features two holsters so he can stow both his laser rifle and his pistol on his back. The Iron Grenadier comes packed with the following gear and accessories: a removable helmet, a sword, a removable sword scabbard, a heavy machine gun with removable ammo box, a rifle with removable magazine and working fore grip, a laser rifle and a pistol. Using the poll options, rate the figure and vehicle on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a total miss and a 10 being plastic perfection, based on what you feel the figure (and vehicle) deserves. Ratings should take overall design, sculpt, paint apps and paint deco, accessories and articulation into consideration. Thanks for voting and Yooo Joe!!! None in hand yet. I hemmed and hawed even getting these because I like the OG look, but I don't think the design or execution is bad. I plan to head canon these to be IG officers or perhaps IGs in a dress uniform.

I gave him a nine. I thought he turned out great just not crazy about the reused weapons especially the V1 Destro guns. Other then that he's solid. I'm sure we will eventually see a more classic version in the retro cards

I ordered one in hopes of a Retro that looks more like the OG,if so this guy will be the officer, otherwise, Destro only gets one guard. Cannot wait for him to come in though.

9/10
This is another great army builder. I would give him a 10 if he came with a couple more compelling weapons. I am equipping mine with the Destro rifle, pistol, and sword. The double barrel AR and the light machine gun will head to the parts bin. I cannot overstate how awesome this figure looks. The variations in matte and gloss deco, the metallic facemask, the sculpting, all superb. |

He’s a really solid figure. I just wish his sword didn’t come in the scabbard. Mine lad a lot of paint damage when I first unsheathed it which was quite disappointing. The head sculpt is great and the long waste coat is growing on me. I plan on picking up more when they become easy to find. This is probably one of my favourite troop builders this year.

Some of this is going to repeat from what I had to say about Storm Shadow from the same wave.
Overall, I like the look of this figure very much, although I wish the legs were black instead of gray (I also think it would hide the fact that they're sourced from the siegie a little better), and as I've said more than once, the tie makes this figure seem more like an officer than a trooper. The removable helmet is a clever touch, and I'm glad it wasn't warped as fuck in the package. I don't mind the reuse of Destro's guns (I do mind how damn rubbery that black pistol is), but I do mind the reuse of the siegie sword, because of the snake head pommel, as well as the reuse of Big Ben's guns. I might have less of a problem with the inclusion of that FN LMG, but unfortunately it's just as droopy and rubbery as ever. Like Storm Shadow, I don't like how tight this figure was in the plastic bubble, and I wonder if my difficulty getting it out contributed to the wobbliness of the ab-crunch joint (fortunately it's not as bad as some others in the line, but I don't like it). Also, the right shoulder hinge on both of my IG's is VERY tight, while the left shoulder is absolutely fine. 7/10 |
