I hear a lot of talk on the tank about headin out to your local stores and seeing scalpers in the joe isle, or people saying that scalpers are hittin up their fav stores. How can you tell who is a scalper? Do they look Evil? wear a Scalpers R Us shirt? not look like dorks who want 25 hisstanks?
I go to 2 TRU, 1 WM, and 2 Targets all within 15 min of me. Ive never even seen another person in the Joe isle. Now, one walmart, until a couple weeks ago still had 10 25th CCs and Wildbills on the shelf for months and months. Over the last couple weeks they still have almost all of their ROC (or less likely- restock the shelves) still on the pegs. Both Targets have their stock pretty well up to date and available on the pegs. One TRU never has anything while the other 15 min away has tons of figs I want. So am I just lucky that there are no scalpers around here? Do any of you see people grabing 10 of the same fig? maybe they are troop building? So far Ive only missed out on 1 fig that I had to buy online (Im in no way a completeist). Just curious on how you know scalpers are buying up everything and not just other joe fans who got there before you? |

The scalpers around here have the moustache that curl up at the ends and they also wear capes and top hats. Really easy to spot.

Well, they usually leave a trail of perma-bald cowboys moaning and spitting blood in their wake...they are identified by their buckskin leggings, feathered headbands, warpaint, and a bloody knife.

The one bad thing concerning the Tank members is they (not all but a lot) label anyone who they see purchase more than one figure as a scalper even though most of us either buy two of each or troop build. Scalpers are nothing more than business men....... People just need to get over it. Let them do their thing and you do yours....
For those of you who need to know....... I have never sold, traded or bought a joe from anyone on the Tank, e-bay, Craig's list, etc. So don't call me a scalper for defending them. |

It's just other collectors with way too much time. What do you think?

Tough to say really.....
I have never run into the guy with four shopping carts full of toys like other Tankers have. However, certain more desirable figures seem to suspiciously absent from just about every store I frequent. I usually find them in time but I REALLY have to look if you know what I mean. I figure most of the buying is done by other fans that just beat me to it. Or the guy who picks up 3 or 4 of a hot figure that keeps one for himself and sells the other 3 on Ebay to support his habit. I don't really consider that scalping and I'm sure ALL of us have done that from time to time myself included. Now I'm just happy to find one of what I want and walk away.

The only time I definitely saw a scalper was when Walmart had the exclusive masterpiece Starscream. The guy had a shopping cart full of them and had cleaned out the stock on the shelf.
I guess it's hard to tell if someone is an army builder, die-hard collector, or a scalper. Sometimes it's a guy from the local comic shop that you recognize. Later you will see the product in the comic shop marked up considerably |

Oh and I don't see ROC having the same scalping issue we saw with the 25th line. It may have some issues here and there but, in general, I think most stores are overstocked with ROC figures and a lot of scalpers have moved on to the next hard to find toyline. |
