Well said Sataninjaku, I think you are 100% spot on and agree with all of what you just said.
I assume SW and Marvel automatically get higher production runs for obvious reasons. But yeah, it really does seem like Classified, and G.I. Joe in general, are a lot more popular now than they were just a few years ago. The SkyStriker got a good amount of backers too, though obviously not nearly as many as the HISS and Dragonfly did. I honestly wish Hasbro had gone about doing the return of o-rings a lot differently. I was hoping for new characters (Operation Recall feels like what Hasbro should have done) and figures from the comics or cartoon but never got in the 1980s. I love Classified to death, but I still love my o-rings too. I think there was room for both. Obviously Hasbro didn't think so. I also agree and totally see why Hasbro decided to go to the 6" scale. I fall into that category of people who started coming on here again because of Classified too. I was really active on here from 2007-2014 but then lost interest in Joe up until 2017, when I started lurking in the vintage section after reacquiring all the o-rings from '82-'94. Then Classified happened and I was hooked and immediately started frequenting the forums and participating again.

Ha, man, I wish I had room for both. I tried, I really did (Legends, too), and it was REALLY hard getting rid of some of them. It was basically "I have a nice, tasteful display with my 500 or so Joes" to "MY WHOLE LIVING SPACE IS GOING TO BECOME CONSUMED WITH TOYS!!!!"... which admittedly, might not be awful. Having had the Sentinel (necessary for an X-display), and later knowing I had to cancel the HISS (necessary for a Joe display) really kinda cleared my head. People mentioned I should cherry-pick when I first considered dropping out, but I've always been all-or-nothing with Joe. To this day, whenever I see the reveals, I consider starting back up. The recent Firefly, Tunnel Rat, and Big Ben were especially hard to pass on, as they're all three top tens for me, and look to be so well done (QC issues aside).
So yeah, I guess it is sort of a craze! Myself, I didn't actually join until that "dark period" when ME was coming to a close, and being an o-ring guy, I didn't really engage much outside of the "dioramas" section, so my initial impression of the site was that I'd missed most of the fun. Hell, there was a solid year or so that it was just a few of us shitposting every day. Whatever this line does, and wherever it goes, it's been really great to see this place spring back to life. |

I often wonder if Classified is as popular as it appears to us Joe fans, relative to the SW and Marvel lines. Yes, Classified figures consistently sell out, while the other lines are seemingly riddled with peg warmers... but are the production runs comparable? I'd have to imagine that your average SW figure has many, many more units shipped to retail vs. your average Joe. I'm more under the impression that Hasbro has gauged demand, and produced accordingly.

i got a few classifieds before and they just didnt do it for me. im probably in the minority but I prefer my figures 3 3/4 inch. I even tried black series star wars and even Mythic Legions. but I just dont care for the larger scale figures for some reason and always gravitate back towards the smaller ones.

But with G.I. Joe, man I don't know what it is, but I just fell in love with Classified as soon as I picked up my first one a couple years back. I was immediately hooked.

I don't think Marvel Legends is Languishing. They put out 150 or so figures a year and They sell more than they don't. I am, granted, biased because i love the Marvel Legends line but its doing fine by any measure.
As to Joe; I think its the result of good, hard work. They made solid action figures, used lots of unique parts and advertise well. From the images they use to advertise the line all the way through to the final product, the line is just excellent. I have had one bad figure (Falcon) in 100 releases. That's an exceptional success rate. Turns out if you make a high quality product, people will pay attention.
