Dusty's Military Patch Meaning

What does this Patch mean? Is it a real Unit or something only in the G.I. Joe Universe?

During the national anthem of the the Eagles and 49ers today they showed a unit with a great logo. I wish they could use this on some figures.

I know I’ve seen a page listing the unit badges that the Joes used but not sure if it was here or on another site.

I believe it was based on the 551st Battalion patch. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The reason Hasbro decided to remove it on the Classified version is probably because it is a WW2 era patch. So it was odd it was even on the original ARAH figure. I got a waterslide decal and put one on my Classified Dusty though, just because that red patch feels more like Dusty to me since that's what we grew up with since 1985.
