It’s a line designed to keep GI JOE in stores and in the eye sight of casual shoppers and collectors until they figure out what to do with the IP.

I don't know what they were thinking with this. It was a "re-imagining" with kids (as the Joes we know) in a Springfield already being run by Cobra. It wasn't very good, even for something you'd expect to find at a 5th Grade Book Sale. Bought it for my son and gave it a read-through (as I usually do) before giving it to him, and he never got past the first few chapters, saying it was "trash."

That's a shame. Book fairs were awesome and they really could have stepped it up a notch by putting some quality branding in there to make kids want to read about the Joes. |

Put the IP in the hands of people who are attached to it and it will do well (in most cases). Look at Lenny... he grew up with the ARAH toys in the 80s and the Classified series has been really good, thus far.
Conversely, the people di Bonaventura keeps hiring to write and direct the G.I. Joe films don't seem to have ANY attachment with the IP. We're seeing this with the MCU now, as well. A lot of the writers and directors have no clue about the characters. Granted it's probably hard to find people in the movie business, who are also fans of the Eternals, but still...
