Valor vs Venom Cobra Commander.
At the time, it was hands down the BEST Cobra Commander figure ever made. It's the only new sculpt figure I still display with my Joes. I think it still holds up, even today. |

Sgt. Stalker V1 from 2002
https://www.yojoe.com/action/02/sgtstalker.shtml This is actually my favorite version of Stalker, despite the forearm armor. I'd love to see a Classified version of this look. |

The VvV Scarlett that was mentioned in this thread was pretty good, at least the single-carded one that was at Dollar Tree and Family Dollar. That one had a great color scheme to go with the decent sculpt. The Cobra Commander above was also pretty good.
Among my favorites would be VvV Torch, all three of the Stall siblings (Spytroops Barrel Roll and Blackout and VvV Bombstrike), the DTC Major Bludd, and the second JvC Snake Eyes who came with an o-ring Cobra Commander. My overall favorite from this era, hands down though, would be DTC Monkeywrench. The figure doesn't fit his character at all, but as a toy, he was awesome.

the comic pack firefly's head is the best fucking head for firefly ever.
if you're talking "when they first were new sculpts" then im picking firefly again, because that version firefly was pretty damn cool. then the new heads on the cobra trooper six packs. i was really disappointed that the night watch set didnt reuse the cobra trooper six pack head. pretty much any figure from the comic packs were great. i also sort of kind of like general maximus or whatever his name was. not serpentor but same thing. |

I put my rare vintage Firefly with all his little parts like the green phone in storage, and have the the comic pack Firefly with updated head and black accessories on display. It's a little like having the best of both worlds; still maintains that old school o-ring look, but it's improved. I was so disappointed they didn't do the same for Storm Shadow. Instead they opted to give him those ridiculous muscle biceps instead of his shirt sleeves. It was still nice at the time to be able to just buy an affordable, bright white 1984 Storm Shadow with great paint....but the arms are an eyesore and his weird old noggin still looked outdated. |

yeah i'd really would have liked for them to have given stormshadow a new sculpted head. they were bothered to do it for snake eyes.
i wasnt so concerned about stormshadow's arms because there was a lot of lost mold type stuff floating around hasbro and they were working with what they had. |

The comic-pack Cover Girl is hard to beat. The proportions are great, and the new shoulders are much more aesthetically pleasing than the other "newsculpt" pin-shoulders. Once they started getting the proportions better, they were killing it. Major Barrage is also great.
And I'd put the best of the vehicles from that era against the best of the vintage. |

My son loves it. I got the ROC version, but I like the V1 colors better. I mentioned somewhere else, I had a Derby party earlier this month and it was a huge hit with several kids. They especially loved how the chopper would slowly rise out of the body.

The Rino is an amazing vehicle. I have the ROC one too but really want to get my hands on the V1. It's just such a fun vehicle. The ROCC is pretty badass as well. I like the little shuttle that comes with it. The Thunderwing and Sky Sweeper were some pretty sweet jets too.
