Its age old debate. Do you open or leave on the card? If you open are you not worried about the figure losing value when you (if you) decide to sell? Does a figure really lose that much value if opened?
Does a vehicle lose value if the box is opened to check contents or does it retain it as long as everything inside is kept in place?

Open. No, I don't care about value... I buy these for ME, not for an investment. What is the point of keeping a vehicle unopened?
I do have a collection of carded stuff though. I've bought one of every Snake Eyes thru the years - and kept them carded. Just fun to look back at the packaging as a whole - and the changes it has taken over the years. |

I'm going through this right now, I only keep 25th/Retro figures MOC...just got into Classified where I'm having OCD trouble opening them...
I've got no interest in resell value & I know I can put them in the boxes when I'm done displaying them so I don't know why its bothering me |

I am definetly more of an out of box displayer unless it?s something that I know is know for sure will increase value or I like the card back enough to buy two. I?m currently looking for new house and don?t really have a display area right now so I have almost full set of classifieds just packed in boxes still sealed but yeh I?ll break them out one day and display. I prefer to set up scenes and change them around. What?s the point of all that great articulation and accessories not to use them I put too much into collecting them to not appreciate how they can look.

They're toys. That's all there is to say.

I opened all the Classified I've gotten, thus far, except the Amazon exclusive Storm Shadow and the Deluxe Zartan. I'm also planning to keep the 8 Walmart retro figures on card, since those are the only 8 we're getting (Hasbro said Walmart would be getting something else, beyond that). I also kept the Walmart retro figures (and vehicles) sealed and if I like the future O-ring releases (I'm not sold with the current SS/SE or CO/CT two packs), I'll probably collect those and keep them in the package mostly because I have no desire to display 3 3/4 inch figures, anymore... the 6" figures look much better... but I might still want them.

tl;dr: toys today are not the toys from 40 years ago. open them.
star wars potf2 is a good example. entire 8ft sections of walmart were devoted to them. 20 years later, the same figures and vehicles can be had for the same price or less. but at the time, you had people thinking they would be sitting on cashcows; and those same people were filling their carts with boxes of them from force awakens' figures at ollies. are there some star wars figures worth money? yeah, i paid 30 bucks for a vintage collection or black series general grevious. same amount for a jodo cast (twice actually. i accidentally bought a stupid version with shitty articulation). shae vizla is worth alot. was grevious and jodo worth 30 bucks? no. the other thing is current figures are worth their most on the second market while they're still fresh. wait a few months and they are worth about as much as getting them from retail. and you have to find a buyer impatient enough. so your classifieds will have some asshole selling them for 3x their price on facebook, but if you wait you'll find them either at retail or on ebay for the same price. and finally, the only people that think toys have any value are toy collectors. we are still in a pandemic. toys are not as important as food; barely stocked toy shelves at stores. complaining about amazon or walmart packaging is also dumb, not considering that your item is a toy, and the worker has to make impossible goals - "throw the thing in the box and label it. i've had to pee for 2 hours." and really? someone complained about a c-10 card in one of these posts. dude. your days of c-10 collecting have been over long before the pandemic happened. the second the only way to get the majority; if not all; of hasbro action figures was to preorder them you lost that ability. see above. |
