I'm one of those kids who was ecstatic when Star Wars toys returned to shelves with POTF2, I opened everything to play with, but I remember even then how there was talk of figures being worth hundreds of dollars in the coming years especially if you owned rare variants...
now they're worth nothing because people want the best, true to life looking versions of those characters which the superhero looking toys in the 90's didn't It's not the same with GIJoe because it's the iterations of GIJoe that seem to have value over other factors RAH-lots of value JVC-low value Spy Troops-low value Valor Vs Venom-decent value DTC-high value ROC/Retaliation-decent value POC/30th-high value Conventions-high value However even though I try to keep rarer items in good or mint condition, I have no plans to ever sell of my collection; my decidsion to open is more how easy it is to keep items display nicely or if the packages help present them item like 25th, retro, etc. |

id lug my entire collection in a big nike duffel bag, and the whole trunk of my parents car to my grand parents house on weekends to play with my cousin and their star wars figures. that was so much fun. |

Buy large sealable containers and store nonperishable food inside. Stock up on ammunition and medical supplies. Learn how to grow your own food.
Knowing is half the battle. |

I left my carded Black Series Carbonized Cara Dune on the card but have been opening my classified figures and other Black Series figures. I just opened the 11 Doctor (Doctor Who) figure set. Got it off ebay yesterday and the box was bad, which helped the price.
So, I guess it is value. I can put a figure back in the box but I cannot re-card it... |

Action figures especially GI joes are meant to be opened, posed, and played with. If you want something that never moves in your displays buy a Joe statue or the Diecast Jada minis. If you want something to keep on card that looks nice and isn't meant to be played with we have super 7 now.
I will always open up the 3.75/4 inch and 6 inch highly articulated figs. If you want to hold on to sell Carded Joes as an investment in 30 years I wouldn't. Joe keeps failing to grab an audience with new generations. The Joe Collecter market get lower in population every year and the amount of people wanting to fork out a lot of money for Joe collectables are getting less every year. In 30 years most 80s Joe collectors will be out of the hobby and no longer buying and chances are slim another generation will pick up the slack. We are probably at Peak GI Joe collectors prices right now as 80s kids have reached an age where Nostalgia is high, their kids are out of the house, and they have disposable income. If you are looking for collectibles figures to keep carded for value go with Marvel, Star Wars, or DC comics, something that constantly picks up a new generation of collectors.
