I've come across this eBay listing for a GI Joe Renegades Duke prototype listed for $25,000 (insane I know) and was wondering if folks here have any understanding of the figure prototype market and who can perhaps shed some light re the reasoning behind the pricing. Granted this is eBay and not the first time I see figure prototypes listed for insanely high prices; but $25,000, come on now. Note there's free shipping though

You know prototypes can be very difficult to gauge for price. You usually only gave 1 or 2 that exist, or a handful of vendor samples. I have a friend that collects and deals in 3 3/4 prototypes. I have seen samples sell for $1000-$2000. But $25000 is not very realistic. Sounds like a greedy or delusional E-Bay seller.

That seller always has a shitload of overpriced protos going up. It got so bad that I added him to my "excluded" list alongside 757Joes (seriously dude, people don't avoid your stuff because it isn't visible enough; they do so because it's a ton of overpriced trash that you relist every. single. day.)

Interesting, I'm not sure that I realized you can exclude sellers from searches. Found it in eBay's Advanced Search, which I haven't been making use of.

My friend’s prototypes are mostly 1980s Real American Hero like 1 ups. He does have a few newer( POC, etc. ) prototypes but you are correct they don’t sell for nearly the amount of 1980s samples. However, on occasion depending on the figure they will hit a hefty price.
