I was looking at the McFarlane Super Powers stuff earlier, and something about it was just off...and I think it's that McFarlane logo more than anything else. I remember feeling the same way when Mattel released their Super Powers stuff. It made me think about how Hasbro lucked out owning the Kenner name and logo because the classic Star Wars (and Ghostbusters too) packaging wouldn't be the same without it, and that caused me to think about GI Joe's retro packaging. In addition to the obvious, I think a major reason I don't like Super7's fake-retro Joes is the packaging itself. It's like a cheap-o knock-off of GI Joe (that costs more than a real GI Joe figure...). The crap art and card design facilitates that, being so close but so far away, but it's also the missing Hasbro logo. It just doesn't feel or look right. Imagine a real classic GI Joe carded figure with the Mattel logo on it...
So, how important is stuff like that to you?

Since I open all of my toys, it doesn't matter at all to me. Packaging goes straight to the recycle bin.

Yeah, I guess it partly comes down to whether you do this for nostalgia or the toys themselves. I mean, the toys matter to me, but I wouldn't be buying toys if it wasn't for the nostalgia. Others just dig toys regardless, and enjoy stuff they have no childhood connection to.

I get that. It does look off not seeing the original names on there. It is a welcome bit of nostalgia to see the old Kenner emblem on Star Wars again though.
Now if only Hasbro would use their old 1980's emblem on G.I.Joe stuff. |

Hey now. Those Edmiston art cards are pretty nice! Sure they're not exactly the same as the og arah art. But let's give the guy props for attempting to emulate the style. And so far he's done every single one of them, so even though a bit different, they still have a cohesive look to them.

The figure itself isn't as important to me as the packaging. I loved the 25th line for this reason, but it was inferior to the Retro line (hoping it continues). Thanks for the heads-up about the Super Powers line, I had to Google that. Might get the Bat Wing, just because!
As far as a Kenner or whatever logo, it's not important to me, as long as they can replicate the original artwork pretty well. No 25th Stinger in a window box will match the awesomeness of the original box art! Praying for NECA to continue the LJN D&D stuff, and to see an Origins MOTU Snake Mountain at some point. Now, I just need Star Wars to start doing some vehicles for the Retro line, or at least give us some more Vintage Collection vehicles. Last edited by Cobra Agent 66; 06-30-2022 at 12:24 PM.. I was considering collecting the o-ring line, so I could display them on card, but if they're changing the packaging to remove the plastic window, then no thanks. The card art was always a draw, though. It definitely caught your eye, walking down the toy aisle.

I'm in the opener camp myself, but I can totally see how it would kind of bother the MOC set. In truth, even as an opener, just knowing a brand like G.I. Joe was being produced by another company would bother me on some weird OCD level. While they're not going to be a retro line, I'm actually more bothered about that in the case of Hiya than I am all of the reported QC issues. I suspect I wouldn't feel that way about the other franchises I collect though, as Joe is #1 in my book.
