POC snake eyes and Renegades Stormshadow are two of the greatest 4? figures of all time, hands down in my opinion. However, modern/25th sculpt had more than a few misses/reaches when trying to capture a ARAH look. So overall I?d go ARAH (although both lines are pretty great.)
Perspective being, I?d sell my modern before my ARAH, although there are some moderns that I?d keep. AND, we never got good v1 Duke?s or Roadblocks, so that is a strike too?

Modern. I?m a sucker for the classic Cobra troops and the 25th/RoC/PoC era Snow Serpents alone win this. Not to mention the EELs and BATs. Plus, the 25th Stinger was fantastic. O-Rings will always have a special place to me. Enough to where I ordered the Cobra Officer/Trooper two pack and Stinger since I?m a die hard Blueshirt fan, but those will be the only O-Rings I get unless they lose their minds and reissue the Viper Glider and Pilot.

I?m not the biggest cartoon fan, though. The Sunbow episodes were fun with a smattering of brilliance here and there, but the cartoon aesthetic does nothing for me. I loved that first couple of years of the comic and figures when it was still very much soldiers and spies. The cartoon decos feel to silly for me, but I?m happy that people are getting them. It?s nice to see Joe doing well. While I miss the modern era 1:18 figure line I?m also enjoying the Classified line. Plus I got a couple O-Rings of my all time favorites to scratch that deep nostalgia itch. So I can?t complain.

I grew up with o-ring figures and that is what I love. I don't begrudge anyone liking ME figures but they hold no appeal for me. I don't understand their gangly proportions or the ugly hinge in the middle of their chests. And why are almost all of them hunched over with the head tilted forward? The design aesthetic makes no sense to me.

I prefer the Modern Era 4-inch figures over the 3.75-inch O-Ring figures.
To me, one of them (O-Rings) represented where I once was with ARAH, and the other represented where my collection was at in the present (Modern Era). Each year with the 1:18 scale should include refinements and upgrades, or else why should I keep collecting these same characters/vehicles over and over again? The newest 1:18 scale Retro O-Ring line just doesn't make any sense to me... I'll try a few figures, but I'm not happy with it.

Modern. O-ring to me represents a time that is long gone. I'm not a fan of trying to regain my child hood by buying toys and opening them. Do I think about the fun times when I was a kid? Yeah but I just don't dwell on it. I got out getting action figures when I was a kid because they got boring. I got back in because the modern figures where more detailed and how more potential for posing and such. So yeah I'm all for modern.

Unfortunately hasbro improved the plastic quality of their line but made the mistake of not re-creating new molds for their most popular figures. Then they misread the poor sales and scrapped the whole line for ME figures. I for one am glad they?ve let that line die and are going back to their roots properly as well as giving the statue posers a 6 inch line. |
