I'm reminded of another funny true story: I saw my dad calling a car dealership for parts in the 1980s and got it in my head that I could swap the hooded cobra commander's head for the helmeted one (I'd never seen the helmeted toy before, as no one I knew had one) so I actually sent Hasbro a letter to their CS address. They replied that they could "not fulfill my parts order, as they do not offer parts for that toy." This is kind of hard to remember, but after that point I asked my mom to "call hasbro", and somehow she got the number, and we found out that they did in fact offer parts to some extent at that time, so at one point you could get...something...as replacement parts for Joes in what was maybe 1987 or 1988. I don't know what or to what extent parts were offered, but my mom did go through a list of things we had that were missing parts with the rep. Anyway, I haven't seen this written anywhere on the web about an experience with Hasbro asking for parts back then, so I thought I would share. I feel like this is one of those things we need to petition Hasbro for. They've sold figure stands on the website before, so I feel like this is in the realm of possibility.

I bought a child hood collection a few years back. There were two Payloads in the lot. One had a broken t crotch. My guess is the t crotch broke and they wrote in to Hasbro which is why there was a second one.

72" (6 ft) x 1/18= 4" (so, at first, ME was 1/18th) x 1/19= 3.78" x 1/17= 4.235" The new Grunt and Stalker are close to 4.2", and 50th Leatherneck is 4.5". So we've gone from 1/19th to 1/17th. |

I hate to harp on it, as I reiterate I DO very much like my ME figures, but the size creep is/was very off-putting. Some of the figures, especially those based off the Retaliation Roadblock body, are LITERALLY another scale. Classic o-ring are 3.75 inches and referred to as 1/18th scale, but it's really 1/19th. Assuming 6 ft as a base (though average male height is 5'9")
72" (6 ft) x 1/18= 4" (so, at first, ME was 1/18th) x 1/19= 3.78" x 1/17= 4.235" The new Grunt and Stalker are close to 4.2", and 50th Leatherneck is 4.5". So we've gone from 1/19th to 1/17th. If you look the 1:18 Halo line, Master Chief is ginormous next to the marine. |

FYI, the other "wrestler" in Joe, Slaughter, is billed as 6'6". Classic Slaughter is 4.25" (with hat). Last edited by xasonnex; 01-04-2022 at 04:18 PM.. |

Google isn't helping, but I'm sure they were at some point in the Attitude Era. I'll say that if you look at Slaughter vs Hogan (billed 6'7"), Hogan is a little bigger, and when it was Hogan/Rock at WrestleMania X8, Hogan is definitely a little bigger than Rock. More wide than tall, But this is middle-aged Hogan (probably shorter with surgeries and spinal compression) and prime Rock.
I worked with a "rassler" who was billed as 6'2", but he couldn't have been more than 5'11". Take billed height with a grain of salt. But The Rock looks massive in Hollywood largely because there you can be short but made to look huge. Take a 6'2" Rock and put him next to, say, Tom Cruise or Stallone and he'll look like Andre. BTW, just found a football article that listed him as 6'4" when he played at Miami. That's still BIG, but not his Roadblock figure vs o-ring Joes big. I'm told they had the same acting coach.
Back on topic, I prefer O-Ring characters. By comparison, they feel better built. Last edited by TheOverlordCorp; 01-11-2022 at 05:54 PM.. |
