Whale and Rattler advocates:
Let?s say Hasbro came to you for help with a choice. They tell you that o-ring Retro is going to continue for at least three years, and that as far as vehicles and playsets, the line will include four small vehicles, two medium ones, and one big ticket item, a vehicle or playset, each year. All of this separately from any HasLabs. They also tell you that they are definitely doing a Rattler and a Whale, as well as a Moray in order to have Skystriker-vs-Rattler and Whale-vs-Moray matchups and stories. And finally, they remind you that durability improvements are part of the o-ring Retro line?s basic approach, so that you can be confident that all vehicles, whether regular release or HasLab, will be durable. So then your choice: Hasbro currently has plans to make a Cobra Aspid skycrane helicopter for their next o-ring HasLab, while making a durable Whale and a durable Rattler next year in their basic line. But they are seeing many advocates for doing the Whale or Rattler as HasLabs instead, and wonder whether they should cancel their Aspid plans, and their plan for a basic, durable version of the Rattler/Whale (whichever one you, dear reader, were voting for) and instead just make a fancier Rattler/Whale instead, while doing something else with the regular release slot thereby opened up. In that case, Rattler and Whale fans, would you kill the Aspid in order to secure a more feature-laden, deluxe version of the Whale (or Rattler, and please specify) and related figures and accessories? Or would you be content with Hasbro?s existing plan in this scenario? If you?d vote to kill the Aspid in favor of souping up a deluxe Whale or Ratter, what would you add to make it beat out the competition? One last time, this is assuming a durable Whale and Rattler are locked in. We?re just comparing the amount a HasLab version would be better by, to the value from a wholly different HasLab. |

The rattler gets scaled up by at least 15%. More luxurious cockpit & gunner turret. All landing gear is mechanized. The struts are die cast metal, sturdy & weighty to keep the CG low & the nose down when parked. Full removable engines at all three points. The wings maintain the VTOL feature but also include a folding feature, like a Corsair or Avenger.
WHALE gets upsized too. The bay should be big enough to launch a V.A.M.P. Or pair of RAMs. Lose the sled feature for more room in the bay. |

@books Personally there are other things I'd want ahead of a Cobra Aspid skycrane helicopter if we're talking something niche and all-new.

The only thing that would make sense is the Whale. Everything else is already easy to get in mint condition.

From Haslab, I would really like to have something new. The Skycrane helicopter is a good choice, but I think we could go bigger. Haslab should really be reserved for something that could never be sold at retail.
There was a guy on Facebook trying to get a Cobra Temple produced that would scale with both orings and modern figures and was significantly bigger than a terror drone. Unfortunately I don?t think his project is going to happen, but I was going to be in for one if he pulled it off. I would drop $400 -$500 for something like that in my collection. I?ll see if I can share pics of what he had in mind. I would be bored with just a rattler unless it featured some major upgrades. |

^ Agree. HasLab is blurring the lines between a Dream Project and simply a Cool Project.
A new modernized Flagg would be a dream project since hardly anyone had one as a kid. Think leds on the landing strip that you can control with an app on your phone. There's a lot of potential. |

In my opinion, there is a lot of inherent risk in producing a HasLab Flagg.
First, the cost. It would be the most expensive HasLab by far. It would be a huge ask. Second, there is no shortage of vintage Flaggs available out in the wild. If someone really wants one - and is willing to pay the price - they can find one. I think there is a much lower potential customer base for the Flagg. Most people simply don't have the room for it. Third - you risk tarnishing the vintage Flagg's 'status' as the coolest, largest, 'holy grail' of toy collecting. Personally, I'd rather leave the Flagg alone and let it keep its mystique. |
