Ever since Hiya toys released their Aliens line, I've been fascinated by the idea of having them go toe-to-toe with the Joes. Then, the Joy Toy dioramas blew my mind because they offer a near-perfect representation of The Pit (and look very Aliens-like). The Halo Warthog and the Battle for the Start SUV, along with the newly-released MARV vehicle, fit in very naturally.
The pics below are my quick take on a diorama. You will notice some special Marauder guests, including James Bond (made with a Daniel Craig head that can be purchased from Etsy) and General Flagg. I also believe the Slaughter's Marauder version of Spirit makes a great version of Rambo. |

I like it, especially the exploding alien. I'd like to make something like that for my Classifieds.

Love the setup! You really did a great job on the layout and how you populated it with figures. Really want to grab some of these but so difficult to plan out exactly what I want without some pieces in hand. Plus I don?t have the spot for a decent sized base yet as I reorganize.

For the most part. Initially, when the Aliens line was announced from Hiya, I imagined a two-squad jungle-type setting. Each squad would have one of the following:
Point Tracker Jungle Trooper Laser Trooper Heavy Machine Gunner Flamethrower Ranger Sniper Marine Communications Medic Once the dioramas, mechs, and vehicles from the other lines were announced, the lineups morphed. No jungle troopers, Spearhead was removed as a point man, breaker wasn't needed (although I could have included him). I was able to add some longtime favorites such as Barbecue (now they are in a structure that may be fire-prone) and Payload (perfect fit as Mech pilot). Flagg was added to replicate the map scene from GI Joe #1. Bond was added just because he's Bond and it would be so cool to have him take on Aliens. There are a few additions just for fun, such as SGT. Slaughter and Airtight (of course, you'll need a Hostile Environment Trooper to handle alien fluids/tissue). There are some version choices. Many of the newer versions of each character (Flash, Stalker, Hawk, etc.) were chosen because their modern aesthetic is a closer match to the look and fee of the diorama. Even those Flash was created for ROC, so much of the POC work from 2010 and beyond was ridiculously underrated. Flash is my all-time favorite Joe, and I included him with the updated versions of Stalker, Snake Eyes, and Scarlett as a nod to the 1982 team. Arguably, Scarlett is just a better version of the V1 Scarlett, but it's a different enough feel that I included her instead of her POC version. I like to think that the Alien skull was split open by Snake Eyes' sword at the apex of flip that carried him over the Alien's head. The rest of the lineups were created to balance firepower with skill. POC Clutch is driving the MARV, and Night Force Steeler is driving the Warthog. Crankcase is driving the BFTS SUV. |
