I went down into the basement tonight to dig through some totes. Looking at all this stuff I've accumulated over the years. It really makes me realize something: I like 'collecting' this crap much more than I like simply 'having' it.
I sit here going thru freezer-bags full of 2000's era figures thru 30th anniversary. Yes, they were a ton of fun to collect along the way - but I really don't have much sentimental attachment to them. I sold most of my original ARAH 80's-94 collection about ten years ago. I can't say I miss it. I still have the memories of collecting it. And I still have a lot of my favorite pieces, and certain things that I didn't want to part with. It got me thinking. Do you think we might be entering a 'peak' for GIJoe collecting - and therefor a peak for prices? I've seen some stuff online, and in shops - and I'm amazed at the prices even for loose figures. Is now my time to sell? My box of file cards, weapons, figures I never displayed, etc. I have no idea what's at the bottom; I know I have a few complete 84 Baronesses in there. Tried to lay the file cards flat so they don't bend. This is my job on vacation next week. Sort through everything, replace o-rings, see what the hell I've got. I never look at them so might as well let someone appreciate it. |

Okay, second part of my question then...
Do I take the time to piece it all out? Match up guns and accessories to figures? That would be a TON of work... and honestly, in my case, it wouldn't make a lot of sense. (considering the hourly rate I charge my clients - I'm better off doing real 'work' instead of wasting hours going thru figures) Where would I sell the entire lot? How do I can an idea of a decent price - without losing my shirt? |

How do I can an idea of a decent price - without losing my shirt? Go on eBay and check "sold" listings and it'll bring up the sold price of what you're looking for. Get an idea based on that. Selling a lot would depend on how much the figures are worth individually. If they're worth less than $10 I wouldn't worry about piecing out. More valuable ones I'd definitely do separately. In my case I think I could get $20 and up for every one I have so a lot wouldn't make sense for me. Last edited by Trigger2K; 11-21-2021 at 02:17 PM.. |

You know what your time is worth and what you are looking to accomplish by selling better than anyone else. I sold most of my ME figures by lot because the time spent on selling, packing, ect. individual items was less valuable to me than my free time. I think it is surprisingly time consuming to pack things well (even selling as a lot I individually bubble wrapped each figure, but they were all carded).

Third part of my question now... Are there any specific 'high priced' / 'valuable' items I should be aware of? Things that I should definitely look to pull out and sell individually? What are the most valuable Joes from the last twenty years? |

Take a look at eBay and filter by "Sold". Not a perfect method, but one that should be helpful.

since the pandemic started its been a sellers market. even before actually. I want to say since the Tv Show the Toys that made us came out a couple years ago. but it really got bad when the pandemic started. if u are looking to unload. now is the time. I cant even afford the price of vintage now cause its just gotten out of hand. so I will save my money for the new o-ring figures coming out next year.

Is now my time to sell? I think there will be point, in the next 5-9 years when to many Gen X toy collectors have realize that they haven’t save enough for retirement and turn to their collections to save them. It won’t t though. We’ll probably see many collectors dump their collections online in the mid to late 2030s. Prices then will probably crash as the generation behind us have little to no interest in the stuff. I think you have a few years. Take your time and go slow so you get the best price for you collection.
