I've spent most of the day going thru totes. I've decided it's time to clean house. I've ended up with Three Totes of 'sell' - and two smaller totes of 'keep'. I'm really surprised by how little sentimental attachment I have to anything that's not 'vintage' now.
Joe vs Cobra - sell Valor vs Venom - sell 25th Anniversary - sell ROC / Retaliation / POC / 50th - sell Club Exclusives - they are separated out, but not sure weather they will stay or go yet... The exceptions for me are one freezer baggie full of 'the best of the best' - and one freezer baggie full of O-ring 'comic packs'. Best of the best includes Modern-Era Lowlight, Sci-Fi, Gung Ho, Kwinn, Ultimate Storm Shadow, Ultimate CC, Airtight, Leatherneck, Comic-con Baroness, Airborne, and a few others. Comic pack figures are some of the best O-Rings ever made. Horror Show, Removeable helmet Fred-Armor CC, etc. Great times. I also kept my Snake Eyes collection - that includes one of 'what-used-to-be' every carded Snake Eyes. I just like having some carded stuff to look back at and remember the era. Anyhow... just wanted to share. It's been a nice trip down memory lane. If anyone needs anything - hit me up. Have you ever purged thru your collection? Curious what your experience was like... |

I've done the purge cycle a few times. First purge was back in college when I needed beer money. I sold off a bunch of ARAH stuff I bought during my senior year in high school.
I then got back into collecting during the Joe vs Cobra, VvV era but eventually sold off or gave to my nephews the new mold o-ring figures (the RAHC and any of the o-ring figs from that era I kept). I got heavy into 25th/ROC/Retaliation/POC lines and then just stopped collecting for a year or two when I relocated. My stuff remained at my parents and then back in 2014/2015 they brought everything up and I threw it in my basement (I bought alot of the 50th stuff around that time). I went through it all and decided to keep everything but I ultimately purged all my ME figures and several vehicles - both vintage and ME stuff to focus on recollecting ARAH o-ring figures. It's been a long trip in collecting for me. I am honestly thinking of doing a small purge of my current collection just to cover for Christmas shopping. I'm holding out to see what Hasbro's long term plans are with the o-ring joes to determine what else I will purge. It's a very cyclical process for me. |

Oh yes, yes yes. I purged most of my Modern Era years ago. Kept my favorites. I guess that line, and that era, wasn't quite "IT". For GI Joe, for me. Still waiting, I guess.

I started back in November to thin out my collection. So far I haven't sold anything yet though. I had a bunch of "bad" O-Ring figures that I had held onto for spare parts, no major issues with them. Nothing broken, just discolored here and there. A lot more extras of vehicles than I remember having, somehow I ended up with six Skyhawks.
But yeah, probably in January I'll start selling stuff. Going to do a general purge of everything, especially all of 25th/ME army builders. I'm going to do a lot of thinning out of my modern Joes. I have four 30th Skystrikers I never opened, to get rid of. More HISS tanks than I'll ever need too. Hopefully all of this will fund buying the new O-Ring Joes next year. |

I've purged several different collections a few times over the years and have almost always ended up regretting it. Now if I feel something isn't resonating with me anymore I put it in a tote. Unless it's a case where I've bought a few things and decided I didn't like the line.

Part of my purge is starting to think about the future. I'm going to turn 50 next year. Do I really want my wife and son to have to dig thru this crap in 30 years when I'm gone? It's my hobby - seems I should regulate it in a sense...
Edit - more like "my son and grandkids"... but still - point stands. |
