I went down into the basement tonight to dig through some totes. Looking at all this stuff I've accumulated over the years. It really makes me realize something: I like 'collecting' this crap much more than I like simply 'having' it.
I sit here going thru freezer-bags full of 2000's era figures thru 30th anniversary. Yes, they were a ton of fun to collect along the way - but I really don't have much sentimental attachment to them. I sold most of my original ARAH 80's-94 collection about ten years ago. I can't say I miss it. I still have the memories of collecting it. And I still have a lot of my favorite pieces, and certain things that I didn't want to part with. It got me thinking. Do you think we might be entering a 'peak' for GIJoe collecting - and therefor a peak for prices? I've seen some stuff online, and in shops - and I'm amazed at the prices even for loose figures. Is now my time to sell? Last edited by captain mal; 10-06-2022 at 12:02 PM.. |

I'm more interested in buying brand new from the store so I know the stuff hasn't been baking in the heat somewhere and becoming brittle.
I'm sure with the push to make more GI Joe stuff available, some will seek out older stuff. |

Is now my time to sell? ?and with Ebay taxes cutting majorly into sales come JAN, sell NOW if that?s your plan. I sold some non-vintage Joes recently that I was cool parting with, and it helped me pay off these Kickstarters/hybrids/Haslab!

The longer we deal with high inflation the more likely it is that I think we'll see a transition to a buyer's market, as people scramble to pay for necessities. I think you are smart to consider selling now, and I've often had the same thought... getting can be more fun sometimes than having.

The last year or two are definitely a sellers market, so much so that I (who has no interest in selling) have even considered it.
If you want to sell, do it now. I think it's going to swing the other way in the next year or two. It probably won't drop to where it was before, but we are for sure at the top sale value peak right now.

I've been considering selling certain things just to have money put aside for the upcoming o-ring releases. |

I will die with them in my possession, unless I somehow survive long enough to get shuffled to an old folks? home. Whatevs. Meanwhile, when prices fall, I?ll be on the hunt for the rare figures I?m missing (goldhead SB, Create-a-Cobra, etc.).

I guess you gotta sell some of it if you want to fund the new Classified when they raise to $27.95 and the $20+ O-Ring. Maybe collect some toilet paper and silver in the meantime.
