None of my figures' thumbs broke when I was a kid. The only problem I experienced was the loosening of joints, and even that was rare. |

I've inherited quite a few loose joint figures from EBay purchases but a lot of my own childhood figures still have great joints. So I'm not sure what others did that caused their figures to get so loose. I played with mine A LOT but maybe I didn't bend their knees or swing their arms around as much? No idea. Maybe some people's figures experienced numerous temperature fluctuations and mine didn't.

I never considered the broken thumbs or crotches that big of a deal. I have over five hundred o-ring figures and maybe three of them have broken thumbs? Of the three, two of them are mail-order Quick Kicks. As for broken crotches: Beach Head, neon Red Ninja, Red Star and some beater OG13 figures I bought for cheap. Maybe I am just lucky.
But yeah, some of the early 2000s rereleases/repaints had more flexible hands already so that was good. As for my Lanard Corps figures, those guys were lucky if they still had their thumbs after two weeks. Ha. I always made them vehicle drivers or passengers since they couldn't hold onto weapons anymore. As an adult, I soften them in near boiling water before gearing them up if there's even the slightest concern that the figure may break. This also works for the original '82s which are so notoriously brittle now. Lanard? My parents bought them for me exactly once, they were broken within hours. LANARD! Rubbish KOs since the 80's!!!® They were thinking 1/4 penny saved is 1/4 penny earned.

The o-ring design evolved a bit in the early years. In '83 they introduced the swivel-arm, then in '85 the neck-ball.
A further improvement would be the ability to swap heads more easily. |

I feel like this is the first time I've heard this on these boards, and feel the same way. The ME/New Sculpt Joe figures DO look oddly proportioned to me. Heads are too small, legs are waaayyy too long, waists too tiny (especially in this day and age).

There were also non-o-ring, "T-crotch" figures during the Joe vs.Cobra "New Sculpt" era, but that didn't last long.
Anyway, I think it's weird people are balking at the price of this set. Shit, I'm actually excited to get a complete and non-yellowed Storm Shadow for that price. Snakes too. I guess some are maybe just bored with vintage o-ring or already spent way too much money on vintage versions of these figures. Agreed. A Chineese Storm Shadow MOC will run you $100, easy. A black major custom solid white Storm Shadow costs about $50 loose, $100+ Carded. An actual Vintage MOC Storm Shadow...child please. So people gasping at $20/each for repros of two of the most sought after action figures of all time? Give me a break. I pre-ordered 2. These sets will be going for $80+ easy on eBay when released, just watch.

I can see general retail in the $14 range. The question is whether these new Joes will ever be available outside of Pulse. I guess that partly depends on how well the SE/SS and Skystriker perform.
Hasbro could also have a non-compete with Super7's ReAction line outside of Pulse given the size/packaging similarities, as unlikely as that would be. |
