Hasbro, Mattel, S7, NECA all make action figures, collectibles whatever you want to call them. They are all competition to each other in the sense a person could choose to buy an item from one company instead of another. None of them are in direct competition with the same type of toy but they are all competing against each other for our money.

There are countless other examples but that's the one that hits most for me here, obviously. GI Joe was created to be SW's competition, and it rocked!!! But ever since Hasbro has had the cash cow SW license, there's less incentive for them to put the same amount of effort they did into GI Joe in the '80s.

Not playing with War Toys is letting the terrorists win. Therefore, I play with War Toys.

I'd also counter that while it's not 3 3/4", Hasbro is putting more effort into their own Joes at this moment, than they're putting into Star Wars. Hell, GI Joe is even taking the main spot at toy cons now, and they're actively licensing out the brand to other companies to produce other scales (including 3 3/4").

Fixed it for ya (the brand predates SW by a little over a decade and was originally created to compete with Barbie. ;p).

Yeah I agree. This is the best outcome we could expect for O-Rings. The downside is they will be $20, but the way Hasbro is going they would have been charging $15+ anyway. To have new O-Rings at retail again, its big news. And Super 7 will do some interesting figures, whereas Hasbro would have gone route 1.
I hope Hasbro does continue doing the odd TF/Joe crossover. (It seems like they are dragging their heels with those. But with the recent Film announcement, I think we know why now! It means the Sgt Slaughter figure will be a while off.) |

Some exciting news there, even if the price is a bit dear (I do understand why). Not much of a cartoon guy, but I did think about getting a He-Man back in '83 to use as Ramar. Just to clarify; no ReAction Red Jackal because there is an O-ring already, even a foreign produced one? |
