Do you watch the GI Joe media round table, or did you get that info from Destro's quote "O-ring line still working on future info for the fans on how it will be handled."? I was trying to find a video of the round table somewhere, and all I came up with was the Full Force Podcast round table Q and a with Emily and Lenny, which I watched, which might as well been have called the Classified Q and A round table, because the ONLY time o-rings were even mentioned was when Emily briefly brought them up 2 times, and not only did she do that without being that up by herself without being asked, the 4 people asked question did not ask a single o-ring related question, and immediately changed the conversation back to Classified when Emily started to talk about o-rings. What's frustrating is that there's the GI Joe team are working on 2 lines, Classified AND o-ring, and the people holding their round tables that are supposed to represent questions the fan base have, clearly have a bias towards Classified, so they only ask Classified questions, so the conversation only revolves around Classified.
During that 1 and a half hour round table, Emily mentioned 2 things about o-rings. She mentioned they were doing a Trooper Officer 2 pack, and in response one of the guys changed the topic to Classified again. Emily also mentioned that they were figuring out the soft reboot which was directly related to the plasticless packaging, and that was all. I think one of the concerns is, since people buy doubles of the retro o-ring 2 packs, 1 for opening, and one to display like the carded figures they had as kids, how is the lack of retro style cards with the plastic bubbles going to affect things? I will still buy the same amount as I always have, because I'm an opener. As for Destros quote "O-ring line still working on future info for the fans on how it will be handled." I'm not sure what to really make of that, because it's just so vague, but considering the fact that the o-ring line has done really well, the Skystriker funded well, SS SE sold out multiple times, the Stinger sold out the same day, the feed back for the Trooper Officer pack as good, the Transformers Joe cross over was very positive... it's a little frustrating that the messaging for the future of the line hasn't been more definitive in a positive way. Sure the Duke/CC and trooper officer packs haven't sold out, but there have been Classified figures that didn't sell out either, and the first couple of waves of Classified received a lot of criticisms, so there's always a bit of growing pains when a new line starts, but I feel that when the team gets it right on the o-ring line, which it has way more than not, the sales and support speak for themselves. I'm just ranting a little because I feel like we're finally getting an updated o-ring line after so many years, and the quality and aesthetic of the figures is so good, the Haslab Skystriker with all the figures was so good, the reception has been overwhelmingly positive, and I feel like all these successes are kind of being ignored to a certain extent for whatever reason. I would understand if the line flopped and no one was buying the stuff, but that's just not the case so far, so it would be nice to feel like the o-ring line was getting the push future planning it deserves. |

Classified is fire right now, more so than ever thanks to the HISS. Hasbro is going to divert the majority of resources there, and rightfully so from a business perspective. Regardless of whether O-ring succeeded or not; it's not putting up Classified numbers.
Longbow and Recall are great for classic o-ring GI Joe-type figures. I prefer stuff tied to GI Joe media or the OG line, so they're not for me. But I'm sure many folks will enjoy them. I'll patiently wait for Hasbro to officially announce a 2023 or beyond O-ring initiative, while simultaneously being prepared to not see another release past the anniversary Duke/CC and Stinger. On that note, I really feel like the advantage of the o-rings over classified (besides playability, which adult collectors may or may not care about) is vehicles. You can get so much more variety of scale with vehicles in the o-ring line, that's not possible in Classified, and I feel Hasbro really needs to lean into that. The stinger sold out in less than a day, imagine what other vehicles plus a figure at that price point would sell out in a day too... I can think of a lot. Plus, focusing on vehicle packs would partly solve the non-plastic packaging issues, because you know everyone is going to be displaying that Stinger box despite the fact that there's not plastic bubble or window, cause it still has the retro vibe. I agree that Longbow and Recall are great, but my focus is also GI Joe, because I really like the dynamic between Joes and the more generalized bad guys of Cobra, but I'm sure those other brands will do very well with collectors... but I do hope that Hasbro takes advantage of the momentum of o-rings success, even if it isn't the main focus... I mean, Hasbro manages to have multiple Transformers lines at the same time, and multiple Star Wars lines... Mattel has MOTU Origins, Multiverse and the animation figures at the same time... there's no reason why GI Joe can't run 2 lines that are successful at the same time. I totally agree. But I guess this is where the fan support is. It seems to be around 90% Classified and 10% O-ring. I wish they would give some more details when they do update the fans. But they usually ignore it totally, and I feel like thats a strange position. Yes the releases are far fewer but it would be nice if they even acknowledged their plans each time.
I agree that it would be nice to know their plans. I'm essentially all in on the o-ring line. |

Is fan support really 90% Classified to 10% o-ring though? I'm not sure the difference in support is that extreme. I know there are a lot more Classified releases, so that can sometimes skew perception, as there's just more to get excited and vocal about. I don't have actual data to refer too, perhaps you do, but just from my anecdotal perception, Classifieds mostly sell very well, though there have been quite a few peg warmers, and all the o-rings have sold extremely well, with perhaps the exception of a 2 pack... but it's also hard to gauge, because there's just been a lot fewer releases in the o-ring line. The people who are negative about stuff tend to be in the minority, but also tend to be the most vocal, however the only way I can really judge fan support is how well product sells, and so far the fan support for o-ring has been overwhelmingly positive.

Understood. Yeah, I agree that it seems the majority of support is for Classified? it?s just hard to tell if that?s cause there?s just a lot more releases, which means people are constantly talking about new stuff, vs the much fewer releases in the o-rings meaning much less talk about new stuff. I?m just not sure if it?s just more of a perception thing.

Im not expecting O-Ring to be a big offering, based on how they talk about it. This year was a decent amount. I expect next year to be a similar amount. They could continue with 2 pack figures through Pulse? Or they could find a retail partner and do an exclusive with them? Either way Im sure theyll be plastic free. I cant see a mass retail release but that would be awesome.
Whatever happens Im expecting around 6 figures, and 1 small vehicle, something like Wolverine, Moray or Water Moccasin. Im not expecting another large vehicle like Skystriker, but I hope they do (Night Raven PLEASE). |

I hope they don't Haslab anymore O-ring vehicles. I'd love the Night Raven and Rattler, but I'm not paying over 200 pounds for them. A Wolverine would be awesome, though... I never had one growing up. I would also love a Mauler, my favourite vehicle that I never had as a kid.

I don't think we have to worry too much about O-Ring going away, atleast not until 2024 anyhow. The sets seem to be selling really well, even the Duke and Cobra Commander set has done okay. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow is sold out, again. I wonder if it'll get another restock.
I think the Cobra Trooper and Officer sold out once and restocked and then the Stinger sold out about as fast as the HISS tank got funded. Megatron and Baroness is sold out and I haven't seen anyone post numbers about Stalker and Bumblebee. But it's probably safe to assume it's also had respectable sales. Sure O-Ring isn't moving Classified numbers, but still it's doing well enough on its own and with little to no advertising. |
