Got my Trooper/Officer yesterday. I like the packaging/product (hate the ridiculous price). It's a nice homage, and the overall presentation/accessories take the slightest glint off the cost ($0.45 in plastic buying them some grace for the $18-20 price bump this shouldn't have).
The stamps on the legs are getting on my nerves. Some of the Wal-Mart Retro figures had them, all 4 of the O-Rings do so far. It's easy to overlook on darker figures (Cobra, Snake Eyes). But it stands out so badly on Storm Shadow, and likely will on the Stinger Driver as well. What regulation or reason is there for this? For the price we're paying, this sort of thing should be nonexistent - and since we see it sometimes present for the Wal-Mart Retro wave, that tells me they can choose to not have them. At a minimum, stamp one set onto one foot, the other on the other foot. Every effort should be made to hide this sort of thing on the figures, it's really tacky IMO.

That was my experience. Once I saw the articulation on G.I. Joe, I stopped asking my parents for Star Wars toys.

To each their own. Was always about the character not articulation for me. Now if the character just happened to *have* more articulation then great. As has been said, it probably depends how you interact/ed with them. I mean I absolutely loved Transformers (bricks though they were) but the kibble *always* bothered me. Not gaps really (the mind tends to fill in those gaps) but the idea that those various kibble points could easily break off if not handled really carefully. And don't get me started on the seekers. Super Powers, on the other side, were a joy to play what with the power Action and just enough poseability to satisfy pretty much any simple fighting you'd want to have. You could take them on long trips and not have 300 pieces to keep track. If you grew up poor and had to take care of your stuff cause not sure when or if you would get another, that sh!t was important.

Yeah, keeping the Baroness might see if I can sell off the Megs/Hiss. Baroness is remaining carded.

Let's be honest here, even if Hasbro had created EXACT replicas of the originals, down to the cardstock and rivets used, some nerds would complain about something. I mean, a couple of people here complained about the new Stinger missing the "A Real American Hero" on the box, even though the vintage box for Cobra vehicles didn't have that tag-line either. For whatever reason, some of us like to push agendas and narratives, even if that narrative is just "This toy company/movie studio/whatever sucks!" And many of us just like to complain. It's weird.

One can nitpick sure but I DO think at least SOME of the criticisms are warranted. Hasbro IS using cheaper materials, IS half-assing a lot of stuff these days, IS taking forever and a day to deliver stuff while competitors are flicking air-lifting things (tell me how a 5B company can't afford or be willing to do that while startups can/will), etc etc. I mean bone to them for finally realizing they can capitalize on that window market of nostalgia (took how long?;)) but they deserve at least SOME of the ribbing, bitchin and moaning. |

But, But..LOL you have a point but this is the internet and there's generally more acceptance online than complaining to one's significant other, am I right? ;)

And mind you, I'm not talking about just casual "This shit be too spendy!" or "Why is this taking so long to get here, Hasbro?" I'm talking about the way this stuff often turns into these creepy rants where people accuse Hasbro of everything from incompetence to greed to conspiracies of being anti-American even. That's the problem. And that it's incessant and overbearing. That causes it's own set of problems: 1). it causes those of us sick of the whining to become hyper-reactive to it (which is stupid and something I'm trying hard not to do) because it's not only a negative vibe that harshes the buzz of what should be fun stuff, but it also, 2). leads to Hasbro not giving a fuck. Think about this during the decision making process: Hasbro has to make a choice about something and it comes down to "Well, they're gonna complain about something anyway, so it might as well be this." See, a lot of these complaints are out of ignorance. Like, someone will post what they believe is a logical example of what they think is a sure sign of Hasbro overcharging and being greedy. "Well, Mattel can do it for this much." "They charge this much for one figure here, but charge more than that for each figure in a two-pack." etc... But those of us who have worked in the world of ROI, cost-benefit analysis and real-world logistics just see their ignorance. And that's fine, there's nothing wrong with not knowing, but some act like they do know when they don't and are indignant about it. Let's look at the $42 o-ring 2-packs vs the $34 Stinger. Some immediately jump at that as a sure sign Hasbro is overcharging for the 2-packs, but what they obviously don't understand is it's not apples to apples. The price of something is made up of more than just what it cost in materials, energy and labor to manufacture the thing, and it's more than just transportation and marketing costs too. For example, in addition to factoring in the production numbers needed to bring economies of scale to bear and other stuff, there's also the opportunity cost to consider. That's what it'll cost to produce this product instead of something else. The production run of one thing is at the expense of something else that you could be producing and that cost needs to be accounted for. Point is, there is a shit-ton of things that go into the final price of something and they're all specific to that thing. It's not as simple as "that thing cost that much, so this thing should cost this much."
