Who is to say the new plastic-free packaging won't maintain a vintage style. The Star Wars TVC boxed deluxe figures prove it can be done.
Or it will go modern like Classified. I'll determine whether to keep one sealed after I see them for the first time. If the packaging speaks to me and I like how it would display then sure, I'll keep one sealed. If not then loose only works as well. |

he o-ring cardback two-packs are specifically for the 40th-anniversary celebration and will only be available in 2022. New packaging and expanded line reboot for o-rings will happen in 2023, when the rest of the line is officially all plastic-free packaging.
Am I reading that right? The rest of the line?.. does they mean retro won?t? I mean for me I want carded ones.

I was thinking about pre-ordering the Imperial Death Trooper 4-pack. I'm not a Star Wars fan and have never owned any SW toys, but these look amazing. The black with the green highlights is stunning. I was wondering if they would go well with the Cobra army.

Just got off the phone with Hasbro's customer service. They can't replace Storm Shadow's nunchuck, but they will send a GIJoe item of equal value. Crossing my fingers and hoping it's another Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes set, since they are still instock.

Since they intend to do boxes, I wonder if the re-releases could be vehicle plus figure to simulate that vintage look.
Or maybe just release figures in the old brown mail away box ala Cobra Commander. |

If it's anything like my son's broken Marvel Legends Spider-Man you'll get one of the $9.99 movie figures. They sent us a Web Glider (or something) Spider-Man movie figure as an "equal value" item. Hopefully you have more success!

You may have to go through Pulse for that instead of Hasbro Customer Service. A friend of mine got a set missing one of the figures completely, and Pulse sent him a whole new set in exchange for the incomplete set.

You're definitely not in the minority. MOC/MIB collectors are super active on the tank but probably overrepresented here overall. I feel for them, but as others have mentioned, it likely means a rise in secondary / custom packaging for that segment, which should also solve the complaints about filecards, card weight, white borders, etc.
Whether you think it's enviro bullshit or a long-overdue market correction, cheap plastic just ain't that cheap anymore. And it's never going back to its late 20th-century heyday. I collect Transformers and Marvel Legends as well, and in the 35+ years I've been doing this, I've never been able to find any common ground of action figure discussion between myself and MOC collectors. It's always as if we belong to two different hobbies. If some of them move to other non-Hasbro lines, I doubt I'll even notice them leaving. On the flip side, it's always been hard to recycle the packaging for stuff like the Kingdom figures, or Black Series bubbles. You have to tear off the plastic window where it's glued to the cardboard and even then it's usually got some paper still stuck on there, so who knows if that can actually be recycled. It got better with the later ML packaging where the cardboard and plastic was separate. |
