So I was wondering this as I am trying to find the Snake Eyes toys in stores. Do you think that Hasbro should have released the Snake Eyes toys earlier? Now I don’t think Hasbro is entirely at fault since the film got pushed up in the release schedule, but I still think they should have been released much earlier. I still haven’t seen them and the film is already out. I fear that by the time they release everywhere, they will peg warm and be a huge loss for Hasbro. Not only that but it may affect future G.I. Joe products in stores.

Yes, but they also missed the mark with the Marvel Shang-Chi figures by releasing them too early. Target already clearanced that wave out and the film is still over a month away. Releasing the figures simultaneously with the movie seems ideal, but I'm going to give Hasbro a pass on this one since shipping is still a mess everywhere. Would have been great if SE and SC figures swapped release dates, though!!

Right now, the biggest hold outs are Walmart and Target…who generally operate on their own schedule anyway. It’s worth noting that in the coming weeks, stores WILL be resetting for the fall/Christmas season toy sets. So at worse, toys will be a couple weeks behind IF you wait for Target or Walmart. I think Hasbro could have suckered a few more speculators by releasing toys sooner…but I think the toys will sell how they will sell. Kids stuff tends to move best around Christmas, and there remains a voracious appetite for Classified among collector groups. All things considered, I think Hasbro’s done a good job estimating the line’s potential longevity, and did a good job building around that. Two waves of 6” Core figures, a pair of bikes, an oversized feature figure, a pair of 12” Titan figures and some roleplay is more than I’m seeing for some recent Marvel films. But, still modest enough that I don’t feel Hasbro will be excessively burdened by overstock. I’m expecting the roleplay, mask, and bike sets to be the most likely outlet fodder. But I think the basic figures will do okay. In terms of marketing potential: Snake Eyes is theatrical only for 45 days. Then it goes exclusive to Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) until later in the fall when it hits digital paid VOD sometime around October. I mean, this is honestly the best case scenario that I can see for the film at this point. It’s going to succeed or fail on its own merits and the whims of consumers, but I’ve also seen enough of how Hasbro has operated these past 5 years to say that, unless a COLOSSAL failure of studio destroying proportion, Hasbro isn’t putting ALL their eggs into the movie angle. We already know a new series is on deck for next year, and Classified is apt to remain a brisk seller through the fall. GI Joe has momentum, and I don’t think even if Snake Eyes flops, it will derail things as bad as the Retaliation delay. Hasbro HAS learned from its past that all or noting gambits are risky and there is potential in diversification. I mean, Transformers survived the catastrophe of “The Last Knight”. I think GI Joe can survive the more modest Snake Eyes.

That’s a great point raised about The Last Knight. That toy line was DOA due to the fact that the second wave didn’t release until weeks after the movie came out I believe. There were like no toys aside from an Optimus Prime, Grimlock and Barricade. And I hated The Last Knight so didn’t even bother picking up many of the toys until they hit Ross.

I think it all boils down to the quality of the figures. In the case of the Snake Eyes toy line, they look pretty nice. I really want them especially the bikes after seeing the film.

I think some characters would have looked cool in the 4 inch line. But that's it.

YES, they did miss the mark on the SE toy line, where the friggin’ movie versions of the 1:18 the scale, fricking idiots!? Or did I miss the news on such a line? Hasbro seems to be alienating the still 1:18th collectors that have been supporting GI Joe since 2007 or even as far back as 1982 as well… its not like they can’t Retro parts most of it into a Snake Eyes Origins 1:18 line, got enough Ninja moulds from the past they can use for starters!

Yeah they missed the mark by allowing the costume dept to use boring designs and making the movie look like the same trash they already did twice.
Movie figures almost always suck compared to the source material and these are no exception |
