Forgive my lack of knoweldge, I dont know that much about GI Joe. Can anyone tell me if recent Retro re-releases of A.W.E, H.I.S.S, and F.A.N.G are the same as the 80's o-rings vintage molds? (I know the figures aren't)
Thanks in advance |

I never owned the original AWE Striker or HISS Tank, but I think the Retro FANG was slightly smaller in scale. I've done a few things between then and now, so it's hard to remember for sure.

The HISS's driver seat area was enlarged to fit the bigger 25th figures and the Retro release added a slightly different gun turret for some reason. IIRC, the AWE's floor plan was modified for the larger figures and the Retro received a new rollbar that moved the TOW/cannon on top to the vintage location and a new cannon mount. Other than that, both the HISS and AWE are essentially the same as the vintage versions.

The FANG definitely isn't. It's an entirely new vehicle, and it isn't nearly as awful as some make it out to be. The HISS and AWE appear to be the retooled versions first available during the 25th Anniversary beginning in 2007.

Nah, a few were all-new, but made to look like the originals...the Water Moccasin, Sky Hawk, Tomahawk (Eagle Hawk), Sky Striker. Most are like the HISS and are modified versions of the originals. It appears that Hasbro is no longer using those molds though, for whatever reason, and vehicles moving forward will be new and not based on either the 25th/ME or the vintage molds. The new Stinger, for example, while it looks like the vintage toy, is 100% new, using new molds/tooling.

I'd be willing to bet the next Cobra vehicle will be Rattler... fingers crossed!

Sure thing. Yojoe.com is a good resource for this stuff, but only up to 2016 or thereabouts because they stopped adding new items to it.

The HISS's driver seat area was enlarged to fit the bigger 25th figures and the Retro release added a slightly different gun turret for some reason. Also, the HISS's turret ring and body were modified way back in 1990-91 for the Septic tank, from two turret tabs/body notches to three tabs/notches. Basically, a modern turret won't work on a vintage HISS body without modding. Quote:
