I am like a lot of you, not only am I collecting piecies of my childhood but it is an investment also. That being said; what is the best resource as far as a price guide or a reference as to what is a good deal and a rip off? I browse most of our members E-bay stores and I enjoy their pieces and prices but is there a book out there that gives a fair and accurate baseline price based off all AFA and C scales? Thanks folks

The best advice I can give you for investing in action figures is to get a time machine and travel back to the 70's and 80's. Unless you wanna do that, toys don't make good investments.

The best toy investment advice I can give anyone is to take the amount of money you spend on toys, divide that dollar amount in half, and spend that amount on lottery tickets. There's a far better chance of that working out better and amounting to something, that is, unless you hold onto your toys for another 50 years.

As far as collecting, and treating it as an investment, I believe it comes down to when you started collecting. I was fortunate enough to start in the late 90s...where Joes were somewhat expensive, but not where they are today. Also, the best advice I ever got was to allow your collection to pay for itself...buy collections as a whole, sell the pieces you already have or don't want, and buy more for your collection...revolving door effect. Honestly though, I think it's timing. This is my 2 cents. Thx

To answer your question, you can find price guides on Amazon.com.
As for an investment, buy real stocks rather than toys. You will have a better chance of making money that way.

Not a bad idea. It's just whenever I hear the term "investment" thrown around in regards to toy collecting, I find the usage of that word to be of the delusional/rationalizing variety.

The modern toy market is in the now. That's why scalping is a better way to make money than long term hording. Usually these things peak in value when they first come out as people panic thinking they won't be able to get one in the future.

Take all the money you are putting toward investing in joes and put it in a ROTH IRA. The difference when you retire will be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
