I just got my Stalker and Cobra Trooper. They actually look nicer in person I think. Unlike the Fang pilot, there is no concern with joints breaking. It is buttery smooth. The weapons are very rubbery though.
Here's some pics for comparison. Cobra Troopers with the FANG and FANG pilot. Here's Stalker compared to the Retro Scarlett and a 25th Breaker just for comparison.

I thought we might get some new retro figures (or re-releases) around the time of the SE movie premiere. Haven't heard much about this line as of late.

I really do like the latest wave. I wish the amount of work done on Stalker was done on Duke and Scarlett.
I didn't like the rifle Stalker came with so I gave him a 25th version as the new one is too rubbery. Here he is with Retro Duke and a 25th Stalker Seems like the new one is slightly larger than the original 25th figures. Here's some comparison of new Cobra Trooper to the FANG pilot.

The Retro figures have very cheap brittle and soft plastics used. The trigger fingers while can hold weapons pretty nicely are prone to stress and breakage. Same issue for the joint pegs at the shins and elbows, they the elbow pegs are also very thin. The t-bar swivel waists while nice are also prone to the seams opening open and even breaking apart. If you mess with the legs too much they can fall off the plastic t-bar and could be lost or the t-bar can break.
I don't really see the play longevity on these figures for kids especially, they are as bad or worse than the figures back in the day with the o-rings that snap, the crotches that break and the broken elbows and hands/thumbs...retro indeed lol. Last edited by CG82; 09-18-2021 at 03:45 PM.. |

I don't think they're for kids at all.
That said, these new Cobra Troopers look cooler the more you have in different poses. I'm digging mine and hope to get some more. |

I wonder how many of those that are in love with the trooper and officer figures missed out on the poc/30th versions.

I've wondered this, even since wave 1. But regarding trooper and officer, I've sense more not-hate than love from those who really don't like them. I don't love them, l love the POC versions, but I don't regret buying one or two Retros at MSRP and would stock up if they ended up at clearance price from shelfwarming (which they won't). |

Regardless as to who they're made for or who this line is geared towards - which seems more the internet merchant or scalper than anything else. But parents would still buy and give these to their kids to play with as they once did or the kid would want them cause they may look cool. Now whether or not kids today would appreciate their figures who knows. Lanard and the Fornite are the only comparable and scaled figures that are commonly found on the aisles for kids to enjoy.
My point was mainly that the average kid would not be as careful with them as the average collector/displayer would and they'd be more prone to breakage or lost legs. The webgear seems less likely to be lost but the weapons are of a bendy and cheaper plastic like the webgear which are prone to tearing and stress. The Cobra bazooka also has the scope lightly glued on and molded separately, to where this lil thing would easily break off and get lost. These newer molded figures are not as rugged as the 25th-early Retro style figure design was overall. Oddly enough the Retro re-design Fang is pretty rugged compared to the 25th version but the figure is cheap trash, lol. Last edited by CG82; 09-18-2021 at 06:51 PM.. |
