Originally posted this in a different thread; but since I'm genuinely curious, hoping a thread all it's own might get some feedback.
Meant to ask back when... Leading up to the Pulse event last year with Snake Supreme extra cheese, I got a boatload of emails touting all those exclusives as reason for going Premium; but a day after all of us poor folk were allowed to buy, a bunch of those exclusives were shifted to preorders. Did anyone who paid the $50 specifically to get a Snake Supreme or Heroes of Endor try to get a refund since those items didn't end up being exclusives? Don't think Hasbro would've obliged, but I'm curious what the company line would be. Don't get me wrong. I think giving all us other fans a chance to get those items was a great decision, but Hasbro isn't consistent in the great decision department. Also, one of those emails mentioned that Pulse was going to be changing the way they did the Premium thing, making it based on buying loads of stuff instead of a flat fee. The email said more info would be coming, but I guess Hasbro dropped that idea once they realized how many Premium memberships they could sell by putting a case of CI figs up for 2 minutes. (No, I don't really believe that. Just couldn't resist.) Obviously, Hasbro isn't going to lose money on Pulse, loosing the little somethin'-somethin' they get from Target for CI's exclusivity. So... would the G..I. Joe fandom be willing to reach a compromise, a legitimate compromise, having to endure maybe less than ideal circumstances in order to actually get your hands on Classified/Retro/whatever. I'm not going to buy into the Premium as long as I'm only paying for a better probability at getting certain figures. If I'm paying $50 extra, I should have the option to buy, not a better chance to buy. However, if during a certain reasonable time-frame (days not minutes,) I could order or preorder figs, I might consider that extra fee. How much would G.I. Joe fans be willing to pay for guaranteed access to Classified exclusives, Retro? What if Hasbro started charging a $35 Premium membership for individual brands, or some weird tiered system? Would you put up with the (apparent) later releases through Pulse, if Premium was a result of your annual/six-month expenditure on Pulse instead of an extra fee. Would you buy more on Pulse? Would you be willing to hang up your fave toy-run sneakers and let USPS handle things? As goofy and conviluted as some ideas may be, I'd really like to enjoy this hobby again. |

* If it wasn't a cash grab, then they are really just that incompetent and didn't consider the backlash they'd receive when all the figures sold out in minutes and a bunch of new Premium members would be left with nothing.

I got suckered into that and pulled the trigger on the Premium Membership. Ugh :-( Another big issue with them is Pulse is so late getting the preordered products in-stock that most of there retail partners have it first (excluding exclusives of course). What's the damn incentive to order from them in the first place. Maybe if I was a popular YouTuber Toy Review Guy who gets perks I would be singing the praises of the Bro. Nah, I'm just a old collector up until last year still enjoyed this hobby and shares that with my youngest son.

The issue with Pulse is they sell you on the claim of having access to exclusive figures then don’t have enough for every member. That feels very much like the definition of bait and switch where you purposefully advertise something to get someone in the store knowing you won’t have enough to satisfy demand with the intention of getting them to buy something else.

Unless it's an exclusive I usually just watch their page around lunch on Friday to see if anything hits, then wait for it to show up on BBTS later that day, since it's easier to deal with BBTS in my experience.

I think the only benefit of the Pulse membership is free shipping on orders for a year. So, it's only good if you order more than $50 of shipping per year. I don't order enough from them so I passed on the membership.
