I?ve recently acquired an 82 Scarlett, and the screw in the back simply won?t budge. I had the same issue with steeler and, in forcing it, the body shattered into about 4 parts. I?m trying to avoid that here. What is some good methods to open it up to replace the band without breaking ?
Please move to the appropriate thread if needed.

You can try one of those stripped screw drill bits. I think they sell them at Lowes.

I'd first deep it in warm water with baking soda for a few minutes as that can "break" the dirt/rust which is likely the reason why the screw won't come out.

you could toss some vinegar down the hole to see if it cleans up some of the rust then firm pressure to unscrew it. if that doesnt work give wd40 a shot.
but 100% expect that torso to be toast. |

I've drilled them carefully before with no problem. Make sure you use a titanium drill bit, start with the smallest and work your way up.
And I wouldn't use a Harbor Freight drill like that guy in the video. But that's a personal preference/tool snobbery. |

I feel like we've had some good threads about this before, but -
I would drill the head off the screw, don't use a drill MOTOR though, get a PIN VISE and a drill bit that is roughly the same size as the screw shaft (or slightly larger). You may have to find a store that carries "numbered" drill bits, which are the sizes in-between the fractional sizes. Perhaps another board member knows what the ideal size would be off the top of their head. Anyhow, once the head of the screw is separated from the shaft, then the torso should come apart. Yes, the screw shaft will probably still be threaded into the front half of the torso, and hopefully you can grab it and unthread it with a pair of pliers, but if it really won't budge you might just have to leave it in there and find some other way to keep the figure's torso together (glue, etc.). Hope that helps!

WOW! I sincerely appreciate all the input. I’m sure there are quite a few threads about it, I looked on the search bar, but didn’t really see specifics (or I didn’t search the right keywords).
I don’t really want to break the torso and get a new one, the few that are on eBay are nice looking and the price isn’t bad- but I kinda want a more worn look to go with the limbs and keep this one intact. I’ll try the vinegar first since I have that and the backing powder after. Thank you all!
