Mine didn't break at the ball it broke at the point of connection at the butterfly joint. Based on what I experienced I think a standard ball and bar design, like PR Lightning, would better stand up to a tight ball and hip joint.

You could be right. But I love the drop hips. I use the heck out of that feature. It would be awesome if they were metal. Super OG and Super tough.
