Well yesterday I went to TRU.com to see what figures they had on their site. I had gotten Helix, Flash, Hawk and Eel in store but still needed a Pit Trooper and Rex. Well after looking through their Joe listing I saw they had just added Helix, Hawk, Crimson Neo, Pit Trooper, Elite Viper, Cobra Eel and Flash. No Rex but at least I'll get my trooper and I decided to pick up the elite viper too. Well added them to my cart and there was no 2 for ten update. I went back and saw all the new figures were not labeled with the promotion. I was confused since I got Helix and Flash with the 2 for 10 in store but apparently they were not apart of this online. I assumed that since these were just added that they forgot to apply the promotion. SO I wrote customer service. They wrote me back saying that if they are apart of the promotion that it will show up in cart. I wrote back again explaining that the promotion was for all 3.75 ROC cobra figures and that I know in store these applied. I suggested that perhaps it was missed when listed online.
I got this as a reply: Dear Mr. McDonald, Thank you for replying to my previous email regarding the "2 FOR $10 select G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Action Figures" promotion. This promotion states that it is for "select" action figures and you will notice that it is not listed under the G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra General Clayton "Hawk" Abernathy or the G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra - Agent Helix Covert Operations Action Figure so it does not apply to these items. Qualifying items will have the promotion listed under the picture of the item on the product's detail page and, if the requirements are met, the discount will automatically apply to the order. I definitely understand where you are coming from and I sincerely apologize for any disappointment that this may cause. It is possible that the store offered the promotion on these figures while the website does not because at the present time, ToysRUs.com and BabiesRUs.com do not price match or match promotions against our land-based stores so online offers may vary from the store. While we do our best to align our prices and promotions, from time to time there may be slight variation. This variation could be the result of an in-store only or online only promotion, or the stores may have decided to stop carrying that particular item while Rus.com has decided to continue offering it. If you have any further questions, or if there is anything else we can assist with, please feel free to contact one of our Online Guest Service Specialists at the numbers listed below. We value your business and look forward to serving you in the future! So basically TRU will price match against their competitors but not with their retail stores? I wrote back and made it clear I'll never shop TRU.com again and will definitely make the retail store my last choice. I also thanked him for wasting my time because this morning the Pit Commando is already sold out. I hope some of you out there will also point out to TRU how ridiculous the rarer newer figures are not apart of the sale online yet are in store. I honestly believe now they did this on purpose because they know fans would buy them at the higher price, which they obviously did for the Pit Commando. |

How so? TRU is a store that honors prices form competitors and gives you 2 weeks to return a receipt if a product went on sale to price adjust. If they do all this how can they say that their online store won't honor in store items?
To me the entire ordeal reeked of someone not willing to admit a mistake. The put items up after the sale and did not apply the promotion. Since these figures are hard to find I doubt anyone really complained and if they did so what since they are more than likely selling out. I've done marketing pieces for tons of retailers and while working with them they always stress that customers are right and when mistakes are pointed out they honor them or offer up a compensation. Most people won't ever use the code or gift card given to them but customers appreciate when a retail outline admits fault and tries to compromise. |

a lot of online stores operate independently of the brick and mortar stores. Target and Walmart are the same way with the majority of stuff. sometimes they're in sync and sometimes they're not.

TRU is really strange in respect to their website vs. store prices. While they tend to have corresponding sales, they don't always. A good example is the Pit online right now - it is $70 with free shipping. In store, it is still full price and you get a gift card for $10. It works both ways - sometimes it is better to buy online, and sometimes you are better off going into the store.

I think the best to come out of this is the term "land based store"
As opposed to water, air, and fire. |

Yeah, like others have said, most online retailers are different from their retail store counterparts. It's a bit ridiculous to throw a fit over it and write them a letter saying you will never shop with them again. They aren't going to change it just for you.

That's just kind of lame not to offer it on all figures of the same price-point in the same toyline.

Oh and I know some websites don't follow the store, however when your site has a huge flash banner advertising the sale and a link to your weekly ad, well then it's interesting. Also the point was they were doing the 2 for 10 sale, however they were not honoring it on select figures. |

Others have said what I would. Just comes down to the store and website being out of sync, and not in direct competition with themselves.
I'm more curious to see if they get the Clone Turbo Tank back in stock with the curent $30 off and free shipping offer. That sale is on 'select' items, so kinda odd if one of the select items is out of stock the whole period of the sale. |
