...even after I'd preordered them earlier in the spring.
I preordered the Wave 1 figures back in like March or something. Now, let me be specific as to why I collect these figures. 1.) I enjoyed them as a kid and I wanted to remember that feeling as an adult. 2.) I didn't want them to play with, I wanted to use them as photography subjects. When I ordered them, I thought they would make for some very interesting shots. They looked cool, and I applaud Hasbro for thinking outside of the box for once instead of giving us the 90th reissue of Snake-Eyes. The figures are well-scupted and there is enough of an homage to the originals that old fans can find something to appreciate about them, and I'm an old fan. You would think they would have been the perfect purchase. I thought so, too. Until I got them in hand, took one look at the size of them, and realized I'd have to completely rethink my perspective of shooting them as subjects and learn a whole new way of shooting them. Photographers who get used to a certain scaling and perspective get into habits, habits that are exceedingly hard to unlearn. So, Hasbro, I think these figures are awesome and I am glad you made them. I just don't think I can use them after taking pictures of 1:18 scale figures for more than a decade. |

I've gone pretty minimal with them. I have Red Ninja and Zartan on order, and I sold both my Snake Eyes' and my Arctic Storm Shadow on Ebay. I'll definitely get a regular Storm Shadow and probably an Alley Viper if he doesn't have a Nerf gun. But I'm pretty selective of the line, whereas I have a ton of Marvel Legends and a good amount of Star Wars Black Series.

If a change in scale is all it takes to throw you off, then maybe the problem is not with the scale. Because evident by all the pictures peoples' been taking and posting of their new Classified figures, no one else has that problem. (Lots of awesome Classified pictures here in Hisstank).
The problem is also not with Hasbro, of all the things they have to worry about, I'm sure "toy photographers" didn't make their top 10 list. Maybe growing and learning new things as a photographer after a decade of doing the same thing is not a bad thing? It's time to get out of that dark room and stop smelling the developers. And maybe you oughta take a step back & question why you're attacking this guy for no discernably good reason. Dude doesn't want to photograph 6" figures, that's all. Why the hostility? Does that personally offend you somehow? And if so, what are you, some sort of Coolbreeze-type weirdo?

Coolbreeze has been gone a while man. Let it go. It's over.

Photographing does seem like an odd reason not to collect a line. I mean, I'm no professional photographer, but doesn't it just mean you have to back the camera up an inch of two? Lol.
To each their own I suppose.

My toy photography sucks no matter the scale. Ha. I remember not wanting a 6" line at all and I am sure there are some posts of me talking about that around here somewhere. But then I got my first look at them and I knew I wanted them right away just to place across my bookshelves.
I probably will attempt to take some decent photos at some point but I have low expectations for the quality of my photos. I'm just looking forward to finishing the construction of my bookcases so that I can line all these figures up on them. |
