Seriously.
I have no interest in diving in and leaving a 15 some odd year collection for a new scale, but there was a bare inkling to just get mainstays; Snake-Eyes, Scarlett, Cobra Commander, Baroness, Beachhead, Roadblock, etc. Small, little display kind of thing. The ABSOLUTELY consumer unfriendly exclusive bull for figures, out the gate, along with limited supply and absolutely abysmal distribution means, even if I wanted to, army building is impossible still on my arguably decent budget with rent, bills, etc. The mark-up is almost universally 200% on any villain figure... I have seen *one* Classified Cobra Island figure (Roadblock) and I have never seen a Destro or anything from Wave 1 despite going twice a week to check on what I do collect (DC Spin Master, Retro Joe, Transformers) and always taking a look, for sake of curiosity. I can count the stores I have actually seen the Wave 1 figures, at all, to being less than twenty; for how long and how often I look, that is boggling. During one of these look-arounds, I saw a Baroness on the shelf, but due to rent pay and medical bills, I could not snag it. It was gone, next time I checked. Today, as a birthday present, my folks, knowing I was looking for one, just tossed me the cash for it when I visited them. There was none in stock in a fifty-ish mile radius from their home, with four locations. I travelled back to my home, and ran through 130 miles (two more Targets) and then, when I got home, I checked again; (eight) more locations. Not one. That's fourteen locations in a not-very populated state, and not one available. Check on eBay, and the standard for Buy It Now is twice retail. Genuinely. Forget this line. This is not how to coax someone to dip their toes in a new line, and it should not be this hard; everyone always has Marvel Legends, Ghostbusters, Transformers and Power Rangers. I'll stick to my four inch line, then; at least their insane mark-ups (as they are not doing much better in distribution) are just topping out at $30. Forgive me for my frustrations, but this is absolutely infuriating to me. Collecting should not be this kind of impossible task. |

Cobra Island is a struggle to collect. (And I know this is a major understatement.)
But Wave 1 and Wave 2 have been available repeatedly on Amazon (and other places) for retail. It simply hasn't been that hard to get the non-Target figures. I just don't understand the mentality that if something isn't hanging on the pegs at Walmart, it's not available. These figures are available online if you pay attention. Online is much easier than roaming the countryside shopping at what are primarily grocery stores (Walmart and Target). Just because Classified isn't available in brick and mortar stores doesn't mean that it can't be found.

I appreciate the attempt at optimism, genuinely, but I just can't with this line and its ridiculous distribution. The only thing I can think is that COVID hit them hard on production, and they will *hopefully* build it up and out. Last edited by NaytNavare; 10-10-2020 at 10:21 PM.. |

Honestly if it frustrates you so much just stick to the 4" stuff like you said you are going to do. It's a hobby you should enjoy, I agree at not paying twice the price but don't let it get you worked up.

Sorry, do you mean like this Destro, right here, available on Amazon for twice the cost?

In the old days he’d just be gone, at least now we have a secondary market. I missed out on figures in the 80’s all the and had zero chance of tracking them down. I didn’t even see a Doc in real life until I was an adult. G.I. JOE is the hottest action figure line of 2020... I don’t think anyone, including Hasbro could’ve predicted that. The Cobra Island fiasco was clearly conceived a year or so ago when this line was untested and pretty much a gamble. |

You're right. It's been a day. It was crazy nice of my folks to try and toss me a birthday present, considering a local storm nearly broke their home, and just trying to dip into this line, as little as I have and am, just makes me feel like it's time to hang up that collector hat, and I needed to blow off steam with folks who may understand my frustration.
I appreciate the words, and you're right. Just. Ugh. The fact GI Joe is back and popular makes me happy and hopeful for the future of the line at the 4" scale. |

Destro was widely available for pre-order, and has popped up online for and has been seen in stores many, many times. Wave 1 is still available for pre order as we speak.

But to your point, they are surely and understandably surprised by this success, as it is. I understand this was not expected, and with COVID, supply is surely hit. Hell, still waiting on any AEW action figures. |

I completely understand your frustration. Like you, I was adamant to stick with my ME collection. But the excitement of the new line made me think of maybe getting one or two. Then came the target fiasco, which ended any interest i might have had right there. Like hitandrun mentioned, this is a hobby and it should be fun (nor should break your budget).
On the plus side, with everyone going ape-shit for classified and retro-line, you can snag some great deals on 4" Joes right now. Anyway, hope you had a good birthday and that your folks are doing well. |
