You had no interest then mentioned wanting almost every character made so far, lol. All kidding aside, my interest is the same. I'm not really wanting the line but want a few characters. I have seen all of wave one in the stores, although only two or three times for each character, which is pretty slim. Destro is the only one I picked up. I did find Pimp Daddy Destro sitting in a GameStop which totally surprised me. I picked that one up as well. Baroness and Cobra Trooper have been much more elusive. I'll find them, or I won't I guess. I've decided not to let it be an issue for me as I don't care as much about a new scale. If I see them, cool, if not, someday down the road the prices may drop. My advice is keep an eye out, but don't purposely drive around to a bunch of stores. It will just drive you mad.
Joes: SE, Scarlett, Flint, Roadblock, Beachhead, Tunnel Rat, Spirit, Lady Jaye, Helix, Jinx, Barrel Roll. Some I would *maybe* pick up, like Duke and such, but not even close to a 'need' like the rest. Cobra: Commander (in black), Destro, Storm Shadow, Baroness, Zartan, Firefly, Zarana. We'll see if other characters I enjoy (Big Boa, Munitia, Scalpel, etc) ever get out. But for real, the amount I would 'need' is slim AF compared to the 200 or so I would guess I have already in modern 4 inch. |

I completely understand your frustration. Like you, I was adamant to stick with my ME collection. But the excitement of the new line made me think of maybe getting one or two. Then came the target fiasco, which ended any interest i might have had right there. Like hitandrun mentioned, this is a hobby and it should be fun (nor should break your budget).
On the plus side, with everyone going ape-shit for classified and retro-line, you can snag some great deals on 4" Joes right now. Anyway, hope you had a good birthday and that your folks are doing well. Folks are well, which, clearly, is much more important than the toys. |

No in-demand toy is in stock all the time any more. It's just the way it is for things like Transformers, Black Series, and now G.I. Joe. But Hasbro almost always just keeps shipping these things, so if you pay attention they come back. (This does not apply to any of the Target stuff.) If it helps your confidence in future distribution, Wave 1 is being repacked with Wave 3 (which is only two figures: Zartan and the Trooper reissue) so maybe Destro and Snake Eyes will become as easy to get as Duke and Scarlett have been for a while.

As someone else mentioned, Destro has been in and out of stock on Amazon (and I mean Amazon.com itself, not Amazon sellers, which are just third party scalpers using Amazon's site). He's been in and out of stock at Gamestop as well.

I just love the justification people give for prices. "Its only twice the cost" as if that's not outrageous. Seriously makes me shake my head. Dont worry... very soon Hasbro is sure to flood the pegs with second and third runs of all these figures and they will peg warm until the stores simply quit buying any. Then the line will die just as all past lines have died. Hasbro doesn't learn from the past. Never.

If you have a Think Geek anywhere near you, I saw 2 of each Wave 1 Joe and 3 Destros there last week, here in NY...

Maybe it’s just because I live in a small town, but I have got (besides the online exclusives and duke scarlet and roadblock whom I ordered from Amazon) all my classified Joes at retail. I didn’t hunt for the wave 1 figs that I didn’t order online but impulse bought them at Walmart when I found them. I also found in 3 separate trips the entirety of Cobra Island at target by checking popfindr, so no wasted trips. Like I said, maybe it’s because where I’m at no one’s interested in Joes besides me but every time I go to Walmart I still see all of wave 1
Edit: by small I mean small compared to the surrounding area I live in, so not necessarily a tiny backwoods lol tho that is pretty close by

I empathize deeply with your frustrations.
Part of me wonders how much COVID is affecting the production numbers and distribution. Seeing as how they seem to have plenty of Ghost Busters, Power Rangers, Marvel, Transformers, and other action figures at the store when I'm looking for GI Joe, it seems that Hasbro just isn't throwing a lot of allocation priority at this. I feel like that amplifies the frustrations of what is a beloved franchise to us. "As long as it sells, we don't care if it's scalpers or actual fans that end up with them." That type of cycle can only continue if numbers are kept scarce. If they flood the shelves, the scalpers will be stuck with them. I think the deeper issue of the current availability is that it pretty much ensures that these toys will not lead to another generation of kids that will see GI Joe as their beloved franchise, because they couldn't get the toys even if they wanted them. The cash flow generated by millions of kids wanting them dwarves that of the adult collectors. Something I am curious of is, with the current state of things, would it even be possible for them to produce enough to go around at this time? Is there any chance the push back of the Snake Eyes movie is with the intent of letting them ramp up an adequate stock of toys to push to coincide with its launch next year? I would see it as a tremendous failure on their part to not try to properly merchandise it. At this time next year will we be able to walk into a store and see 20 of each figure on the peg? I'm not a fan of how things are. This wasn't the way I envisioned it when I got excited about there being new toys to buy. I'm hoping it is temporary and trying to curb my frustration until life gets a bit closer to normal. If next year at this time it's the same crap to deal with even though there's a multi-million-dollar movie about to hit theaters and a video game (or two) out, I'll be pretty pissed off. |

The entire Classified line minus Cobra Island is easily available on multiple sites for msrp or for the $1-2 premium on the Dorkside/EE/BBTS/etc. sites. Target, Walmart, Pulse and Amazon are constantly replenishing stock for these at msrp. TIP: Amazon often lists 3rd party sellers as the landing site while the $19.99 msrp "ships and sold by Amazon" price is tucked under the "Other Sellers" heading. Anyone who has paid 3rd party markups (online) for the main Classified line has not put much effort into it, which is ironic considering most of these people will drive around all day for months looking for the same thing on hooks and shelves.
