Hi guys!
I just started collecting GI Joe, I’m a Transformers fan but watched the cartoon back in the 90’s. I picked up a few Venom vs Valor packs. Absolutely love the artwork, the Viper helmets are especially cool but the figures look kind of different. What I noticed is the guys are overall solid, but the women have weird proportions (small heads, round shoulders) and could use a bit more eyeliner. The hands also have different peghole size so they can’t all hold the same weapons which is a shame. How do you guys handle that? I 3d model and print some MP5’s/M16’s and try to make the handle for most figures. Besides Valor vs Venom I also have a few Rise of Cobra figures, they are nice but also have the hand issue. And the women are very skinny and don’t have the best headsculpts. Which I find strange, Hasbro can sculpt great heads (Marvel Legends and Star Wars have decent heads). As far as I looked, I like Valor vs Venom Bombstrike the best looking at various female figures. Better shoulders than the others and nice hair and outfit. Are there any repaints of that figure or is she a repaint of some other figure? I do have trouble finding vehicles, from what I understood the last wave (besides the 6 inch Classified series) was 2018 or earlier. Ebay is my main marketplace to look (live in Viva Hollandia). I did score a black Hiss tank. But can’t seem to find a Joe equivalent vehicle which is easy to buy. Any ideas? I do want to get a Mobile Command Center at some point, toolbox on treads but expensive. And that VF-1A Tomcat Valkyrie, eh Sky Striker. They are hard to find. Is there a better online shop or online marketplace to look for GI Joe new figures and vehicles besides ebay? Also rewatching the Sunbow cartoon, what I noticed is that the Joe’s don’t really have a leader (I’m 11 episodes in). In the intro it’s the cowboy sergeant guy with the shades in the front. But you also have Duke. Cobra has the Commander Starscream voice guy all the time as badguy leader. The pilot episodes were mental, with Furbies turning into sentient Yeti’s, Giant water Sentinels, magic statues. Are there any other GI Joe cartoons? Transformers has a ton of series so I’m wondering. What’s the thing you like about GI Joe the most? For me the cool Cobra soldier designs and vehicles, scale and weapons What’s your favorite line of GI Joe figures? Mine is Valor vs Venom Which is your favorite GI Joe dude figure? Mine is Valor vs Venom Red Viper Which is your favorite GI Joe female figure? Mine is Valor vs Venom Bombstrike |

Welcome to the hobby/passion.
If you haven't been there, let me introduce you to Yojoe.com, the BEST toy archive website for any toys! You'll find all your need to know about any GIJoe toys on that website, including information on Bombstrike. https://www.yojoe.com/action/05/bombstrike.shtml A better online place to find Joes than eBay would be right here on HISSTANK.com, go to the buy/sell/trade section. I've gotten some pretty sweet deals from fellow tankers here. As for the cartoon, it's been a while since I watch them! Ha ha. |

Mine is Valor vs Venom Bombstrike The GI Joes definitely all have ranks, they're just not clearly spelled out in the Cartoon. Duke pretty much runs the show in the Cartoon, until General Hawk comes along. You have to look at the file cards and comics to get a clearer picture of their ranks.

Pyramid of Darkness is officially the start of "Season 1," which then transitioned to regular one-off stories for another 50 episodes. Season 2 starts with the five-part Arise, Serpentor, Arise and then has another 25 episodes. After season 2 came G.I. Joe: The Movie, which was originally supposed to be a theatrical release but got sent direct-to-video instead after Transformers: The Movie flopped. After the movie, the series transitioned from Sunbow to DIC for two seasons. The animation and writing were of decidedly lesser quality. And yes, the show is famous for often being quite goofy and weird. It has ghosts, time travel, ancient gods coming to life, and all sorts of other bizarre nonsense. Quote:

In 2009, G.I. Joe: Resolute debuted on the Adult Swim network with a TV-14 rating that targeted an older audience with a darker and less goofy storyline more like the comic books. That was a limited series of short 5-to-10-minute episodes that run about an hour total. Later came G.I. Joe: Renegades, which lasted one season. |

Welcome to the Tank!!!
Josh Z gave a good synopsis of the cartoons. That's great for your wallet if you like VvV figures. You should b able to get them for cheap on eBay and here on the Tank. If you are looking for some quality female figures, I recommend looking for the Modern Era (ME) figures from 2010 to now. The Pursuit of Cobra (POC) line came out in 2010 with far superior sculpts and builds than the 25th and ROC lines. Pretty much every line after 2010 has kept that quality (POC, Renegades, 30th anniversary, Retaliation, 50th anniversary, Retro). The figures from the GI Joe club, and SDCC are also great too. In fact my favorite female figure is SDCC Zarana from 2011. https://www.yojoe.com/action/11/zarana5a.shtml Pythona is great too. The only female ME figures that came out before 2010 that you should consider getting are ROC Helix, and Resolute Scarlett.

Here is a pic of just the Modern Era Cobra Female figures:
There is an ME Bombstrike figure. I like her but a lot of people don't like her head sculpt. https://www.yojoe.com/action/15/bombstrike2.shtml

Wow, what a warm welcome
@Cyclopswc Thanks for the YoJoe website! It has a lot of vehicles neatly categorized by year. Very helpfull! After this post I'll go to the buy/sell/trade section. @beachheadmatt Ahaa, I'm used to Transformers and it clearly has Optimus vs Megatron. X-Men has Professor X vs Magneto. So I kind of had that mindset going in. @josh Z Ahaa, miniseries around the seasons, makes sense. Haha time travel as well. Looking at Transformers you also get about everything. Same animation company. When I first saw a clip of GI Joe in some youtube vid I thought they edited Transformers g1 music to it, but it's actually the same. Weird. Ahaa, I'll check out the other cartoon shows. Renegades looks to have a more stylized look. @46 zone Interesting! A lot of lines, I'll check them all out! It does look like most female figures are exclusives or in a big set. Besides Scarlett, Lady Jaye and the Baroness. The others look good, I'll try and a cool one. Great picture man! Must be loaded with rare ones and exclusives, I rarely come across any of these on ebayz. I'll try to find the other Bombstrike version. I've started working on a cartoon Scarlett myself but have a hard time finding good reference pictures. I think I'll screenshot the cartoon episodes if I find the time. @cross country Yes, Marvel also wrote Transformers g1 as far as I can remember. Thanks for all the info guys! One more question, is third party GI Joe figures a big thing? I know about Guru Planet / Spy Lounge (hope they are doing good) and Marauder Inc. Are there any more? Now to hunt for more Hiss tanks and other vehicles. I do want a Sky Striker at some point, prefer the white one but a repaint is also good. |

Yes. Marauders is huge on this site!!! Some of those females in my pic use MGR parts.
Boss Fight Studios is a company made up of former Hasbro Joe designers that make awesome 1:18 scale figures. They have a fantasy line, 1:18 scale horses, and customizable blank figures. They also bought out another company called Zombie lab, and just started selling their figures too. You can still get Zombie lab figures from Locker toys. They have good civilian sculpts. If you like cowboys and the old west, check out Dime Novel Legends from Chicken Fried toys. I don't have any, but Joy Toy makes a 1:18 scale military line that is more realistic, with slightly future tech. A lot of people on here have them. Also, Walmart should start selling the Hiss Tank again for $25, hopefully in early October. It's part of the Hasbro GI Joe Retro line. The pegs on it are only for the ME figures though.

@46 Zone
Oh cool! didn't know they have former Hasbro Joe designers. Yes they have some great stuff, will need to pick up some soldiers in the future there. I've googled the Retro line, I will jump on that wagon when it comes along, would love a few golden oldies fresh and new. I was looking for the best Scarlett figure, from what I've found, the original with remolded head in a 3 pack looks very good. Haven't found that one on Ebay yet. Also started making my own cartoon Scarlett, still in early phase. Hope it will look good. WIP pic is here: instagram.com/plasticpolygonnew Once she's version 1 is finished I'll make a post in the Custom thread |
