Fucking Christ, Hasbro. Just get some modern 3 3/4” articulated Joes into stores already!

Exactly. I don't understand the draw of those ReAction figures or how they are able to charge that much for them. They look like something that should cost $5 at a Dollar General but I guess there is some kind of market for them. *shrugs*

Is there a chance these are more than the standard reaction figure? Last time I looked, those things are 9.99. For 17.99, I would expect an actual vintage styled Joe for that money. If it was an o ring figure, they’d easily sell. I know I’d buy them.

Yep. The figures could literally have zero POA and it wouldn't change anything. These aren't being marketed to people who are gonna want to take them out of the bubble.

I guess newbie collectors get the product they deserve. Overpriced kitsch that will be gathering cyber dust on ebay in 10 years.

At first, they were making their nickel the same way Funko was--making figs of the stuff nobody else was making figures out of. Goonies, Aliens, six million dollar man.
I kinda feel like the fact they made the first Firefly toys helped them a lot. Firefly fans love validation like that. I'm interested to see, though, what's going to happen now that they're branching into stuff that has better toys out there. Like, does anybody want to buy a toy toy Optimus Prime when they can buy a real toy Optimus Prime? And with them putting out figures close to the size of the original G.I.Joes, they're heading for a toy uncanny valley I can't see as being appealing at all. But what do I know? I can't stand Funko Pops, but everybody and their aunt tillie is selling them so somebody must be buying them.

Actually, it's odder than that.
People can buy a toy toy (for kids) Optimus Prime or a real collector Optimus Prime, with neither made by Super 7. So again, retro packaging/style kitsch it all it is. Funko Pops might be like Beanie Babies in a decade or less. |
