Well, for me, it's like setting up still shots in a comic book. I start off with a story line, for example, I have one figure, the most civilian looking of my collection, be a diplomat who is kidnapped by Cobra agents. Then I have 6 Joes form a Special Ops team to rescue the said diplomat. Then I set up the scenes. Below are some examples of scenes:
Scene 1: Blackhawk Insertion Shot 1 - Blackhawk on the ground, Special Ops team is positioned in the Blackhawk to go down. Shot 2 - Special Ops team goes down, and sets a perimeter. Shot 3 - Blackhawk is gone, and Special Ops team is on its way to the objective. Scene 2: Interrogation of the Hostage Shot 1 - The Hostage is all alone in a dark room. Shot 2 - Lights go on, and a Cobra Officer steps in. Shot 3 - The Cobra Officer is in the motion of beating up the Hostage. I could go on, but I'm sure you get the idea. It's sort of like a kid playing with toys, but, 1) Since we are grownups, the stories are more complex, 2) I don't really make my figures move; I just set up the scene, take either a photographic image or even just a mental image, tweak the scene if it doesn't look good enough and take mental or photographic images again. At least, that's how I do it. I'm not sure about the others. |

Last time I set something like that, Duke was captured and being interrogated by Destro and some CGs. Set it up that there are Cobra troops all over the place. Roadblock and Rock & Roll set up machine-gun nests near the compound while Snake Eyes, Beach Head infiltrate. After the "package" (i.e. Duke) is located, Flint's team barrels through in an AWE Striker while Scarlett coordinates the whole op. While the troops outside are engaged, Beach Head and Snake Eyes secures Duke. Once Duke is safe, Flint's team moves in deeper for the extract. Duke is loaded on the AWE. Their egress is covered by Roadblock and Rock & Roll. The difference is, I move the figures (Just like a kid would. That's why no one must see me do this!) and I wish I had a digicam available then. I'm thinking of a "Behind Enemy Lines" scenario next with a Firebat shooting down Scarlett who's been doing aerial recon in a Night Specter. Cobra troops would be after her while a rescue team of Joes would be sent to extract her. I'll prep my cam. |

Same as Zeplin, with a few differences.

I hear you Travis. I myself got into deep credit card debt because of these damn things. Now, I'm taking out a loan to pay off those credit card debts. The key, I found, is in enjoying (all right, playing!) with the stuff I do have. I still get a new thing every now and then, but never because it's new or it's hot, but it's something that fits with what I have. If I have a craving for Joes, I now just pull out and enjoy what I have.
One other interesting thing I found in this addiction is that the pleasure is not in the figure (or vehicle or playset) itself but in the act of buying and procuring said figure. Once that passes, the object is stored or displayed and virtually forgotten because we want that high from getting something new. I know this is not true for everyone, or maybe it's just me. |

Oldest?!? I just turned 37 last week, you young whipper snapper. Honestly age is just a number, unless you date someone half your age and you get 10-20 years. Funny how many of us are around the same age. I thought it was weird that in Jr High I was buying toys while others were chasing girls.
Welcome to our daily Joes Anonymous meetings 78Coolbreeze you're in for a fun ride. "My name is George and I've been on plastic crack for the pass 26 years. Hey, where's all the free beers for these meetings?"

they've been making joes for 45 years now. so what if most of us are younger than Joe at this point.
I am also a 30 year old Joe-holic. I can control it most of the time, but when I see a crimson gaurd or a sand viper I just have to grab as many as my wallet will allow. |
