There are always plenty of toys from the past to collect. To modify. To army build. Create new dioramas. Build out MOC/MISB collections. You can even go after rarer pre-production items.
The future of GI Joe at retail, or any new toys, relies squarely on new media as we all know. We're getting a Snake Eyes ninja movie with heavy Japanese influence next year. Doesn't seem like something with potential mass pop culture appeal to ignite a new cinematic universe like Iron Man did. But I guess we'll see. |

Bumblebee seems to be doing pretty well so hopefully Hasbro will give us more GI Joe movies, which in turn will give us more Joe product!!

I'm not expecting greatness from the new film, but Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and the whole Arashikage storyline is what has kept me into Joe over the decades, so I'm hoping for some cool ninja-based figures in the future.

As mentioned above, I don’t think it’s a guarantee we’ll get the figures we expect/want if they do return to retail. 10 years ago you would walk into a toy aisle and be able to find Joes, Star Wars and Marvel Universe figures in great quantity, plus a smattering of movie related figures like Indiana Jones, Star Trek, Terminator, etc. in our preferred scale. Today, super-articulated 1/18 figures are on the edge of extinction at Hasbro. The whole Joe design team is gone and we haven’t gotten new figures since 2016. Star Wars and Marvel super articulated figure lines are on life support: expensive for the size, shadows of their former selves, and dwarfed in abundance and quality by their 6” counterparts. Most 1/18 figures at retail have 5 POA, which is not ideal IMO. So I’m pessimistic that we’ll ever see a return to what we had with the 25th and POC lines. It just seems they’ve moved on from the scale/articulation combination we all like.

I think Hasbro should at least try a few waves of a G.I.Joe Black Series based on the original 80s toys/cartoon. I think the fan base will go into a buying frenzy for highly detailed releases of beloved characters and troopers from Joe.

As someone who has a very large vintage collection but has not bought anything as an adult, I'd like to see a 6" option as a way to jump back into the line for people like me. I'm doing something similar on the Transformers side with the Bumblebee G1-inspired portion of the Movie Masterpiece line. |

Yes! 12-15 dollars a piece for 1:18 scale, highly detailed nicely painted. Re-use a lot of parts of course, but have some super detailed parts, vests etc.

If you want a sneak peek of the future of Joes, I guess MTF has just put out new product. That's the closest we are going to g to get to 1/18 scale Joe's until 2020.
