Now that ROC is out I don't even buy toys anymore. I just hang out there acting like I'm getting them for a nephew and try to pick up MILF's. You know you're gold when they cover their ring finger when they talk to you.
The OP should have kicked it to his girl when and if he walked away. A lot of the heads I saw today were pretty stoked on the new toys. Even a Target employee. |

Ive never had any of the other customers say anything or react to me buying joes, its usually the employees, like the time I was hunting for the duke/redstar cp wave,my wife asked one of the guys in the electonics dept to check the stockroom,he seemed all to willing to do it along with smile all up in my wifes face until he realized that she was with me,he instantly hit her with that bs,"oh Im sorry maam, the hand computer says theres none back there" after that I notice the guy quickly shot a look to another employee, who glanced at me,kinda smirked then looked away. Thats when I got pissed and asked him if something was wrong,he replied,"no sir, what are you refering to" I then asked "what the fuck is so funny" he replied "nothing sir, what are you talkig about" at that point I just walked away because I didnt want to continue to embarass myself infront of the other customers.
Thats just one inccident,I have many that has happened to me when buying or trying to buy joes. |

Yeah, cart full of kids, getting fatter and fatter, boobs sagging lower and lower, fake nails, fake tan, fake blonde hair, a bejeweled cell phone, wearing Ed Hardy bought at Off the Rack, and drives a Mercedes . . . Mini-van, yeah we collect toys and her life is just so fucking appealing???

I'm thinking there's alot of tankers with negative self images on this board. Who cares if someone looks at you funny or says something derogatory about your hobby.
It's your hobby and if it makes you happy, screw these people who a) don't know you and b) are unlikely to ever be seen in your life again... (except maybe the employees who should be thanking you for buying stuff and thus keeping them employed). |

About 3 weeks ago I was in Toy World down here in Australia & I bought a Star Wars Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon, cost me $299.00... So I go to the counter & I get the whole 'raised eyebrow' look from this woman probably in her 40's I think who actually runs the store here & you could tell by the tone in her voice she was being very sarcastic in what she was saying to me & being so called nice, kinda made me laugh alittle but also made me think 'Blow Me'!
So a few days later i'm looking for ROC Joe in the same store, they didn't have any & I asked another woman there if they were getting any, she was real nice, went outta her way, called up people asking if they were going to get the items & when & even gave me the date of when they would be in, how much & what they would be getting which was great, she was real nice, so i'm standing there thinking 'she's cool', you know, she was polite, friendly, anyway... I come back on the day that they were supposed to get the items & the same lady that sold me the Millennium Falcon is there, she comes up & rudely asks if she could help me with anything, I knew straight away 'here we go...', so I asked about the ROC Joe & if they were getting any in today & blah blah blah, she rudely says no, she knows nothing about them, hasn't heard anything about them or them being even made & asked me where I have seen them before, I said "Ummm, well they were released yesturday so..." & she is all like "No, we won't be getting them, there is no call for them so we won't stock them", so I just said "Yea no worries then, guess i'll just blow my cash elsewhere, where I can actually get what I want, for a NORMAL price & the staff are actually NICE & FRIENDLY", I then get the 'Blow Me' look from her, haha... Thing is, I was in the same store a couple days earlier & asked her about them, she told me that they had them on the shelves & must have sold out already the day after they got them in & I told her no because I was in here yesturday looking also & she said well you couldn't have been, she was just so rude, PLUS the Millennium Falcon I paid $299.00 for I later found in Target for HELLO $99.95!!! WHAT THE!!! So I now don't even bother going into Toy World here, I refuse to spend my cash in there & provide them with any sort of business at all, I got my first lot of ROC Joe figures & vehicles in Big W here, the young lad in the toy aisle actually went out back, got the boxes & bought em' all out for me, so I bought them all except for the ones I had before they were even on the shelves, he was polite, helpful, I thought Yup i'll be back again mate. So today I bought 1 Night Raven, 1 Steel Crusher, 1 Cobra Gunship, 7 different figures from KMart outta town, I get to the check out & the young girl looks at me like i'm a pedo trying to lure in children, haha, i'm like 'You stuck up lil' hoe'... thinkin' it in my head. Makes me laugh sometimes what people think when they see me getting Joe or Transformers gear, also makes you alil pissed off too that people are so closed minded & so up themselves as well. I was also in another store recently outta town when I got some ROC Joe gear, only 2 or 3 figures right, my female 'friend' & I get to the counter & the check out chick goes "G I Joe, haha, collect em' do ya", said in a rude mannered tone, so my 'friend' turns & says "Nah, he's gonna go home & play with em' in the f****in' sand pit like he does with me"... SERIOUSLY, the look on this chicks face, was as GOLD as Destro's 25th Ann Head! LOVED IT! |

This "Collectables Hobby" just comes with a Stigma...always has. Luckily Geekdom has become a lot more socially acceptable than it was in like say...the nineties.

I've only had this happen before with a let’s say "well kept" mom and her two sons. So I'm standing there looking for the figures I want and she says "Aren't you a little too old to be buying dolls" So I smile and turn to her and say "Miss I spend half the year in places you only hear about on the news, getting shot at, and putting my life on the line for my country. If I choose to buy some action figures in my free time, I think I've earned that right." I smile again at her two sons and make my way to the checkout as the color just drained from her face. Walking away I hear her son ask if he could have some G.I. Joes like the man had.
Now I'm not what you might call a sensitive person and I’m not ashamed of my collecting, her tone was very condescending and needed to be corrected. Point is there are people out in the world who think they have the moral right to correct what they see as abnormal. I don’t know if the guy who made the comment was one of them or not, but as a citizen of a free country don’t ever let someone try and shame you out of something you enjoy. In my opinion you should have stood your ground and talked to him. If he was mocking you then he would have seen it was having no effect and moved on, or you might have made a new friend maybe talked about both of your likes and dislikes involving the line. |
