No question at all.... OPEN. If you’re not going to open you might as well just save pictures of your toys from the internet and not bother buying them.

MOC for me. I realized that the greatest part of my Joe nostalgia was for the card art, especially for characters like Storm Shadow, Baroness, Firefly, Night Creeper, Alley Viper, etc.

Nearly nothing I own is MOC.
Partly because of space constraints, but mostly because in 1982 I was 10...so everything in my collection was and is a played with toy. Even now at 45...while I dont sit and 'play' anymore I still open to get the experience of actually handling the toy. Some get displayed...some get put in totes. But all get opened. |

I'm about 50/50. I love me some card art but I also like the figures themselves. I guess for the ones that are MOC, I could open them carefully and have both.

If you love card art, open the figures, very slowly, very methodically with an exacto-knife around the bubble. Keep gently pressed all the card art cardboard with the filecards on the back, and store it at room temperature. Also buy card art book collections. But seriously enjoy the figures. Display them, photograph them, share the photos, customize, trade, add MTF, mix anniversary figures with original vehicles, and every day, pat yourself on the back for having the courage to have opened them in the first place, yo joe!

Agreed. They are so much more fun when you can play with them. They ARE toys, after all

Life is too short to keep everything MOC. There are some figures that are just really cool carded but most should be displayed somehow or put into dioramas. I’m putting up some shelves that will have a mix of acrylic display cases, shadow boxes with backdrops that my wife inserts, and a tank diorama shelf that will curiously be pointed at some shelves that have some spear wielding sci fi teddy bear guys in a village that my boys are building with mom.... If there was just an ME Backblast.... so much potential there....
Have fun with them says I!

I keep some things MOC for reasons that elude me. I think I’m still trying to figure out how I’ll utilize my collection in the future once I have a better way to display it. But most of what is still unopened will be eventually. I don’t want to keep things to just look at - I want to display them in dios and photograph them. Now, I may end up selling some off (MOC or loose) if I decide the figure design doesn’t fit in with my collection. And obviously, something MOC is usually worth more than loose items. I’m mostly working on custom building at the moment, so I don’t even really want to keep things exactly as they were out of the package. Accessory changes, body part swaps, paint washes - I prefer making my collection unique. And I know this hurts resale value, but whatever. I don’t really anticipate selling anything for a profit. Like I said, only if it doesn’t fit. For example, I collected a lot of 25th Cobra Troopers back when they were abundant, but that body sculpt is kind of outdated already, unless they’re way in the background.
